Re: 1000m comp for newbies
Forgot to mention, I tried a 1km attempt. Got 3.33. I was feeling weak going into it after a long day and didn't go all out. Quads were burning afterwards though. Deadline is end of the year. I would like to shave 10 seconds of this time, more would be a bonus.

Re: 1000m comp for newbies
The 1K was always my best distance as far as World Rankings and such. As stated by others how much different the 1K split is to a 2K really depends on if you are better at shorter or longer rows. Paul's laws sort of works for me once I get over 2K but below I see larger changes. The 1K to me also i...

1000m comp for newbies
Just started a 1000m competition with mates. All young men however none of us are rowers. I estimate my 2km time to be around 7:30-7:40. How much faster is a 1000m 500m split than a 2000m 500m split?

Re: New to Rowing - Any tips to get beyond 10min sessions?
Hi Mate, I experience the exact same thing. Im office bound all day and have super tight muscles, especially hamstrings. I 100% make sure I stretch the lower back, hamstrings, glutes and hip flexors for about 15-20mins before rowing. I find when I do this all the pressure off my lower back is gone an...
Re: 5000m
Couldnt agree more. Need a few hours for the body to warm up.
Last nights attempt was 20:40.3![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: 5000m
Hi all, Thanks for the replies. I cannot believe what happened to me. It was a day or two after my original pos. I woke up at 6am and headed to the gym. I thought this would be a nice slow row so no warmup(stretching) was needed. As I was approaching 3k my back ceased up and I had to get off and wal...
5000m
Hi All, A few of us blokes have just started a 5km competition. None of us are regular rowers. All in our mid 30's. We all have some sort of fitness but are not experienced with rowing(have tried 2km races in the past and that's it.). What would be a good time to target over the next 2 months? Witho...

Re: Newbie after a little guidance
Hi Everyone, So I have been rowing twice a week since my last post. Mostly 1 min off 1 min on x 18(my best is 2050m) but also some other variants. Been really good and learnt a lot regarding pacing, rowing technique etc.. Re-attempted the 2km and did a PB of 7:18.7 on Friday which I was pretty happy...

Re: Newbie after a little guidance
Thanks all, I gave it a second go and completely bombed it. Though my time was some what faster than my first attempt I started way too hard and couldn't hang on. 7:36.5 S/m 25 Splits: 1:47.6 1:53.0 1:58.5 1:57.4 I still believe with just better form and strategy I can get down to 7:20. More fitnes...

Re: Newbie after a little guidance
Thanks All for the replies and tips. I had a look at Pete's plan and there are some great pointers there. Im 31 years old with a sporty background so relativity fit. As many have mentioned seems my biggest time gains in such a short period will be from improving technique so I have been watching vid...

Newbie after a little guidance
Good Afternoon Everyone, Brand new to indoor rowing due to starting a competition with friends. Fastest 2k time within the month of August wins. My goal was to get my time under 7min or as close to as possible within the month and ideally take first prize. :) I did my first attempt last week and I w...
