Re: What is better 2*5000m with a break or 10,000m or something else to lose weight
There is no such thing as a heart rate "Fat Burning Zone". Fat burning only works in the absence of insulin; insulin is only low in absence of blood glucose and glycogen in the muscles/liver; this generally only happens first thing in the morning. The moment you start eating/drinking food with any g...

Re: Any prediabetes success?
Just a few comments, in support of my original post. 1. WRT Dr. Cywes. Being a bariatric surgeon does not preclude expertise in other areas. E.g., Dr Jason Fung - nephrologist, Professor Tim Noakes - university professor and ultra marathon runner, Gary Taubes - Harvard trained nuclear physicist who ...

Re: Any prediabetes success?
I have been where you are and the cure is to lower your carbohydrate intake. Metformin is not a cure - it merely manages the symptom; the problem with metformin is that it causes weight gain - about 10lb a year. Your problem is almost certainly chocolate and alcohol, and those "hidden carbs" in heal...

Re: Big screen Upgrade - What do you think ?
Yes it is mounted on the PM5 arm behind the PM5 mount. The clamp is a hand-screw fitting which fits the arm very well; you then adjust the angles until you get the TV in the right place. It comes with all the screws necessary and a standard sized plate which is screw-fitted to the back of the monito...

Re: Big screen Upgrade - What do you think ?
I use one of these to mount a 32 in screen above the PM5 - fits perfectly.

Re: HRM and pacemaker
The HRM is reading what it hears. Pacemakers act pretty much in the same way as Beta Blockers; your heart rate is prevented from going above a certain maximum value; trying to do more than that makes you breathless because you simply cannot get enough oxygen to sustain the workload; there is no way ...

Re: Heartrate monitor + fat around abdomen
I am the traditional male "Apple" shape and have found the Polar H10 ideal. It has an elastic chest strap which fits perfectly and which ("he says proudly!") I have been able to tighten as I lose weight.

Re: Old Newbie - getting Started
Many thanks for the responses; some good solid advice there. The advice from my GP has been non-specific - "well, from your past activities, you seem to know what you are doing but, at your age you have to realise that unexpected things can happen - just don't do too much".

Old Newbie - getting Started
Old, as in 74 years old; two heart attacks, 2008 and 2010; reduced lung function from previous asthma; weight 83kg and height 1.78m. I used to be a fit climber; summited Mont Blanc for my 70th birthday as a final gesture - but Covid-19 put paid to all that. How does one re-start? Medical advice has ...
