Re: Damper settings for different distances?
Some people like a little higher drag for hard sprints, but whatever Drag Factor (the actual number read from the monitor, not the damper setting) you use, the distance you get with each stroke is only dependent on how hard you pull (power you put into the drive). DF is a personal preference thing ...

Damper settings for different distances?
Do people use different damper settings for different distances and workouts? I have it maxed at 10 for speed and interval training, up to 2K. But when I do the longer "engine-building" pulls (5k -14K), I knock it down to about 5. Is this a bad idea; should I always keep the damper setting the same?...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
I've just started this plan and I really like it so far. But I have a question: I really only have time to row 3 times a week (I do weight training and tennis on the off days, with one day rest). So per the Pete Plan, I do 1 speed interval workout, 1 endurance pyramid, and 1 steady long row (usuall...

Re: Is my weight an issue?
I just hate to lose all those calories I would normally burn, that's all. When you burn between 750 and 1,000 calories each time, you get used to eating a certain amount. To stay at my optimum weight, I get the sneaking suspicion I won't be able to eat the same way if I'm only at about 60% of that ...

Re: Is my weight an issue?
Yeah, it's the speed times I want to increase. I can barely break 7:30 on the 2K as is, and I think it's just because I'm geared more toward the long distances. At 65 I did a year of 5ks, then a month of tapering as to the then Interactive schedules. My typical 2ks were 7:10 to 7:20 at rate 28. Slo...

Re: How do times on water convert to indoor?
It's not about the actual boat, but the feel of the 4x (coxless quad) on smooth water. Comparing actual times is hard because of the different boats, even within the same class, water conditions, etc. I assume in the beginning, they experimented with the monitor, having experienced rowers (the Drie...

Perhaps a mix of different tiered workouts, and 1 "engine building workout" of 40-60 minutes each week is what I need, as opposed to just ...

Re: Is my weight an issue?
OP, you're doing 10k pieces several times per week at 2:00 pace (from another thread). Your times seem great to me. If you're trying to gain in your 2k time, perhaps you just need to do more speed work. Yeah, it's the speed times I want to increase. I can barely break 7:30 on the 2K as is, and I th...

Re: How do times on water convert to indoor?
So the times shown on the rower reflect what a 4-man crew would do...? That seems weird as a rower can only hold one person...

Re: Is my weight an issue?
Wow....I'd better order some protein powder just to make sure I meet your definition of what is right    I'm happy....the OP is happy....the only one who isn't is you  Maybe I'm not getting my point across properly. OP said he was pretty thin and exercises a lot. He is 6'3 175....

Re: How do times on water convert to indoor?
I don't weight a lot; I'm 6'3, 175lbs, so I don't think my drag would be too bad. But I know lightweight rowers who are shorter would drag even less.
So basically, the times I see on the Concept 2 rower would be mostly accurate compared to if I was in the water...?

Re: Is my weight an issue?
No worries for all comments; I take no offense, nor do I think any of it is particularly bad advice. :) I'm not especially interested in weight classes; I'm more interested in just getting the most out of my rowing at my current weight, which as I said, I do like. However, if many people said my row...

Re: Is my weight an issue?
Okay, thanks. I guess it's just a matter of how you want to tune your engine, just like a race car.
You can gear it for top end or low end but you generally have to choose which side you want to be on...I want to go for more of an all-around fitness, though.

How do times on water convert to indoor?
Maybe this isn't the best place to put it, but I've always wondered:
How do times on water compare to indoor rowing times on the Concept 2?
For example, if I row a certain time indoor, can I expect that number to be higher or lower on the water? And if so, is it a significant difference?
