Re: Benchmark Times

Thanks mate. Well i pumped out a 6.29 2km last week and im up to 6x100kg on the bench now. I'm now in the habit of running at least a couple of times a week and ive just entered a half marathon which takes place on 31st October. The goal for that will be sub 1.30. Not sure how realistic that will b...

Re: Benchmark Times

First of all, hats off to your trifecta of row-lift-marathon. That would be an amazing triple! Let us know if you ever go for that in a single season! I remember when I was sniffing the sub-7 2km row, the sub-30 5 mile run, sub-5 hour 100 mile bike ride, and the sub-7 500y swim all at the same time...

Re: Benchmark Times

Bit of ramble - but i'd eventually like to be in good enough shape where i can row a sub 6.30 for 2km; bench 100kg for 10 reps and run a sub 3 hour marathon. That for me is a good balance of fitness, strength and endurance - and it seems like a hard but ultimately realistic goal. None of the times ...

Re: Benchmark Times

Every sport and most athletes have certain benchmark times that are meaningful (though obviously arbitrary). The "four minute mile" is the most famous, of course. There are others, the two hour marathon (for Eliud Kipchoge) or the three hour marathon (for me after I turned forty)... there always se...

Re: Incorporating Rower and Ski Erg in Marathon Training

I used to run before i picked up erging - averaged 60km - 100km a week and hit a 2.34 marathon. The biggest factor for me was interval training a couple of times a week and then a hard, long run on the weekend. Well basically, all of my running was done at a hard pace as i was logging relatively low...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

As its quite cool here in Aus i thought id take advantage and do a half marathon. No real target in mind - just to complete it Felt pretty comfortable. Last 8km was a bit of grind. Had a funny snap with about 12km to go when i almost stopped for no reason but that then passed and i felt ok again. th...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

New 5km PB on the Skierg today. Beat the old one by 17 seconds which was a bit of a surprise. Decided to not purposely try and rate over 40 which ive been consciously trying to do recently - instead just focus on pace and let rate come naturally. Felt really comfortable so went for it in the last k...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Well, despite my signature claims that it was NGTFH, the summer solstice challenge spurred me on to try a SkiErg HM. 1:32:23.7 21,097m 2:11.3 154 831 33 8:46.5 2,000m 2:11.6 153 828 31 8:47.1 4,000m 2:11.7 153 826 31 8:46.5 6,000m 2:11.6 153 828 32 8:46.6 8,000m 2:11.6 153 827 33 8:46.7 10,000m 2:1...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Had another go at CTC. its just a good training session hence why i thought id do it again. Cant really expect great things only rowing 30km a week but i gave myself a target of 1.43.9 after averaging 1.44.3 earlier this month. First rep felt pretty good. 2nd rep was a good fight and then i wasnt su...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Particularly spicey ski-erg session today. 5 x 600 meters off 2 mins rest. Target was 2k-1 which worked out as 1.38.7 for me. Then to try and negative split the set. Well i almost threw in the towel after the 4th and i started the 5th already in lactic pain so i knew it was going to be ugly - but i...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Training piece, all pretty comfortable. L4-style, 276-270-276-270-270-270 Overstroked and sped up a bit as I fatigued, but 24m further than my previous furthest. New headband made a huge difference in how much sweat got in my eyes :) 1:00:00.0 13,358m 2:14.7 143 792 28 10:00.0 2,229m 2:14.5 144 794...
