Re: Rower is too hard to row
Bungee cord? Unlikely, as it is only a few Newtons in a 400+ Newton stroke (for 2:25/500m, if you go faster, you easily hit 600 to 800 N). One could easily check though: a luggage scale will do. C2 somewhere mentioned chain stiffness and bearing stiffness. Another unmeasured component is friction o...

Re: Checking Distance at Logbook Time Points
Thank you both, not only for the answer to my original question, but for the insight. Right now, even during Tabata workouts I can hit an acceptable test percentile, but of course want to do better than just that. I just don't want to try to go full bore, non-stop and end up lowering my time by cra...

Re: The most effective 2k plan
I typed "what is Wolverine Plan level 4" into Google and got this: In the fall, a 40' Level 4 workout may be described as "176, 180, 176, 180" and you would begin by completing a 176 sequence and segue immediately into a 180, then a 176, and finally another 180. The total # of strokes for this piec...

Re: The most effective 2k plan
I’ve never done the Pete Plan - as I had more than 45-60mins a day to train I thought why not do the ‘proper’ plan - Wolverine. The first plan I followed was the C2 interactive - 16 weeks 6 sessions a week. I liked that because it was 8ish weeks of building cardio with lots of UT work. Then 8 weeks ...

Re: Looking for feedback on my rowing technique
The late great Andy Riply set the 50-54 2k World record at 6.07 back in 1998 I think. I remember watching him at BIRC 2003 pulling a 6.21 at 55. He rated from memory at 28. He had so much layback he was almost horizontal. You can’t compare Andy Ripley with normal humans. Winner of International Sup...

Re: Looking for feedback on my rowing technique
Hard to breathe more than twice per stroke: maybe one reason why crews race 2k at over 40, as allowed by C2 blades. On the current erg, a longer, higher force stroke will allow fewer of them over any given distance, so lower rating and lower inertial losses; but not by much; and breathing is limite...

Re: Looking for feedback on my rowing technique
Hi, and welcome, Maybe a bit too much layback but not necessarily a huge problem. I expect James will be along soon with a link to a good video of technique. IMO - what DF are you using? I think it’s too high, just from how you are rowing. Maybe it’s a short sharp CF thing with high DF and high rat...

Re: Wow am I a confused noobie
Hi all. I'm 56, 179lbs. and workout (elliptical, lift) about 5x a week. I just started rowing on my concept 2 and love it. I'm a studier so I've read so many things about the damper setting, drag factor and distance. After some trial and error I've landed on a damper of about 4.25 and enjoy 5k rows...

Re: Please comment on my technique - video
Winniewinser, interesting about your HR 'blips'. I've had a couple of blips whilst cycling, I've been at my normal max having levelled off, and suddenly HR spikes up to 190 or so before almost instantaneously lowering back down to 180. Not quite the 220 you've seen, but still a considerable jump. I...

Re: 1000m breakdown
If you can do 8x500 at 1:42 pace then a 2k at 1:45 should be more than doable. From my study of n=1 my 2k pace is my 8x500 pace, but we are all different. Sometimes these things become a mental block so maybe try some incremental training. Do you do 4x1000 intervals? Try those at 1:45 as a replaceme...

Re: Questions about workout progress & schedule
24M 195lb 5"7' HR45-205 I started rowing 2ish months ago and put in around 60-70k/week. The workouts I do fluctuate as I learn, but this month I've stuck to: UT2, UT1, rest day, repeat. Those two workouts are always the same: UT2: 75 minutes, 16 SPM / 120-125W (2:20ish) RPE 3-5, around 16K UT1: 35 ...

Re: Weird challenges?
I did a 7,500m in 30 mins, start every 2 hours for 24 hours -so 90,000m total last year.
It was a team challenge event with 4 per team rowing 30 mins each in rotation. The 7,500 was my personal target - everyone was asked to aim for at least 5k, it was organised by a CrossFit gym so not many rowers.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Just improved my 2K from 7:26.7 to 7:26.2. Yay ! Took 9 weeks (granted, perturbed by a flu, one very minor surgery and one 1 week biz trip with no training). At that "pace" (0.5s in 9 weeks) my wet dream goal of 7:00min 2K will be reached in 472 weeks i.e. almost exactly 9 years :D :D :D Love an ex...
