Re: Steady state programming
Thanks mate - it felt pretty horrible to be honest. Like I had less in the tank than the last effort, only the numbers were somehow better. I wanted to hold 1:41 and then wind it up in the last 500, but I was clinging onto mid-1:41s and barely had anything left at the end. For reference, I've been d...

Re: Steady state programming
Progress a bit slower than I would have liked but times are coming down steadily, appreciate the advice here and all the good info in the training threads. Left to my own devices I'd have been doing 5ks three times a week and wondering I'd ever I go under 7 mins. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 6:...

Re: Double Training Sessions?
I've gone straight into double sessions during this lockdown period to get in some good mileage as a relative noob. It has let me do that and I can recover pretty well between workouts, but I'm finding the quality of the morning sessions isn't great. Might retain a couple of the double-days just for...

Re: Steady state programming
Coming off a rest day seemed to be a good opportunity to do a 2k to see where I'm at, started out a bit conservatively then wound it up over the last 1k. Could perhaps go a bit quicker with flatter pacing, earlier sprint and just getting used to the distance. But it feels like to go much faster I ne...

Re: Steady state programming
Yeah max HR is just a personal reference point, doesn't mean much more than that. If anything a high max HR probably just means a smaller heart / stroke volume. I've settled on 2 x 15km 4 days/wk at a 2:08 split for the time being. A few joint and muscle niggles with the sudden volume increase which...

Re: Steady state programming
I don't know, but it's at least 200. I was seeing that on a semi-regular basis when I started using a HRM last year. I'm trying to work it all out but resting is 48 so based on the HRR calculation given above the cap would be 154.

Re: Steady state programming
Fickle all right, this was in the afternoon after eating like a horse all day. Some drift but within the UT2 cap. Re: Steady state programming
Did a 10k at 2:12 to get an idea of HR then a 20k in the afternoon, HR actually averaged lower in the second session because I was a lot more carbed up. HR didn't rise after the first 25 mins so it seems about right for steady state? Main casualties at this point are my ass and hands. Probably is wo...

Re: Steady state programming
Appreciate the replies, thanks guys. Resting HR 48, true max I don't know but I was seeing 200 not infrequently last year if I added a sprint to the end of an 8k. Yields 154 as 70% of HRR. If that's a cap rather than an average, I'll have to try it but think I'd need to stick to something like 2:14 ...

Re: Steady state programming
Yuss! It's not nearly as dangerous as it seems but is fairly brutal on the body in its own way. Going way into O2 debt every time without ever training the aerobic system.max_ratcliffe wrote: ↑March 28th, 2020, 12:31 amI have to have a guess at the "literal" anaerobic sport... the best I can come up with is freediving.

Steady state programming
Hi All, in lockdown here and luckily picked up a concept 2 just before everything shut. This is a good opportunity to just rack up a lot of mileage with great recovery. I switched recently from another sport that's about as anaerobic as it's possible to be (if you want to guess, think very literally...
