Re: Benchmark Times
I really appreciated your post. It is funny how the first two comments are (sadly) spot on but so is the last one . That is the challenge of this kind of thing. We are chasing three goals at once: 1) Can we take pleasure in who we are in the moment (not always just planning for the future)? 2) Can ...

Re: Benchmark Times
I used to love that WIlliam Blake quote when I was younger 'the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom' and embraced it in various aspects of my life. I still do believe that fully committing to your goals and being 'unbalanced' is the way to achieving not just primary goals but also other st...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Wow things must be very competitive there! A 1:23 half marathon here in Madison, WI would get you about 20th-40th out of ~1000 male runners at our two biggest half marathons each year. I think a 1:23 would get me about that here as well, I guess I just can't be bothered anymore to pay the money and...

Re: Benchmark Times
Thanks mate. Well i pumped out a 6.29 2km last week and im up to 6x100kg on the bench now. I'm now in the habit of running at least a couple of times a week and ive just entered a half marathon which takes place on 31st October. The goal for that will be sub 1.30. Not sure how realistic that will b...

Re: Benchmark Times
random thoughts.... the problem with benchmarks is that there's always another one. ... etc etc. his body has now totally broken down and his obsession broke up his marriage. ... all fun to contemplate though I really appreciated your post. Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
84 10ks so far this year is impressive! What kind of weekly mileage do you average throughout the year? What are your preferred race distances? Thanks! But at my slow pace, Lake Loop 10kms are nothing to write home about. I think my current mileage (just running) is just under 50km a week . Last ye...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
The rain is supposed to start here in Oregon this weekend... so I can feel less guilty about sitting in the garage on the rower. As it is sunny right now however, I am mostly just running. Yesterday I did my 84th Lake Loop 10km of the year. That is not too bad since the goal was to do 100 in the cal...

Re: Continuing rowing? Or back to another sport?
When I was racing I could have probably ran around a 36:00 minute 10k and my 1500m short course in the pool was mid 17:00s. I probably could have swam low 50:00 for a Ironman swim. I don’t think I will ever see a 2:50 marathon.. Then I think it is fair to say you should just do whatever you enjoy a...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Oh, I also ran my standard Lake Loop today, so no row. The route was as hilly as ever but felt pretty good. I did it in 43:03, which is a good +10km (for me) considering the terrain. The bad news is that when I have a good effort like that, I eat twice as much... I might have set my self back with t...

Also, I did a steady grind today. 1:58.1 pace for an hour (HR 147 avg). My strokes per minute have come down a tiny bit... to 28.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Today was just a Lake Loop 10km run with an additional 2km cool down. Still trying to recover the legs from that 10km TT last Thursday. Clearly a hard 10km on the erg can do more harm that good when it comes to my ability to recover. There is an old saying in running (not quite true) that for every ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
I haven't rowed for two days because that 38:08 seems to have destroyed my quads. I ran 7 miles yesterday (hilly) and that was "okay" but this morning, my scheduled workout of a 5km time-trial had to be put on hold since my legs were jelly. We ran 10 miles (hilly) instead but at a VERY moderate pace...
