Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Not on the erg for a couple of days. My first competitive row (scull) for over 28 years today. Only a time trial over 1000m, so like a mini head race. All the tech things I've been working on over recent weeks to fix my dubious technique went out the window. It was mainly kids and juniors out there...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Breaking 8k at r20, is a big milestone. Well done, but if there weren't any notably horrible moments, you can go faster :D Cheers Stu. Thanks for the congratulations, whilst pointing out the insufficient pain!!!! :D I concur and plan to put that right with a bit more pain next time. This was a grea...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I finally did a 30'@ r20 today. I have had a mental hurdle to get over with this one. Really pleased with the result and I think there was a bit more in there. I was expecting 15 to 25 minutes to be really horrible, but they were not too bad. I wanted to bring it home in the last km, but I could not...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

At the same time I got rid of my "hand drop" on the recovery which I thought was a good thing but now wonder if these are related somehow and if it matters. Hand drop? I always have a very straight line from start to finish, at any stroke rate. Not sure how that relates to maintaining a higher stro...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Thank you. My main goal is weight loss really, so I thought rowing would be a good cardio, but now I've gotten into it, I do want to improve my times as much as I can. And yeah I've been only focusing on 2k and 5k right now, I might do a 10k sometime, but there's also only one rowing machine in my ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Some medium intensity intervals today. Before the session I figured this would be very hard to complete. But as I got going, it felt better and better, and ended up with 172 as the highest HR throughout the session. Really satisfied with that. Target was 4 intervals of 15 minutes, 2 minutes rest, 4...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Haven't posted on here for a while but I am trying to get into a good and regular pattern with a decent volume of training and I thought that sharing on here and getting the benefit of the supportive network of posters would stand me in good stead. BRIC in December is a tentative target, but the big...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Hi, not sure if this is the best place to start, but I joined a gym last month, mainly to use weight (I'm 155kg (341 lbs) at 200cm (6'6'')), and I have been using the rowing machine there since then. It's my favorite exercise for sure. I've been mainly doing 2k and 5k. And I've been improving my ti...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Advice please as to what sort of splits I should be doing for the low intensity stuff. I was thinking between 1.57 and 2.00 What's your 2k PB? I go off 2k + 25 as a good (and proper) UT2 session, which is usually 2:04/05. If you use a HR monitor, cap the pace at 70%. I suspect that you should be do...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

As per my signature below I have been allergic to long sessions on the erg. Mainly due to ego and competing with myself all the time. The red mist tends to come down after a few minutes of pulling. I completed a 5k earlier in the week (albeit poorly paced) and I decided to do a 30 minute row a coupl...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I got on an erg for the first time in over a month yesterday. With gym shut down for over a month and my wife finding job after job in the garden to be completed by yesterday, the routine has gone completely out of the window. To add insult to injury (or injury to insult) I went out for a 5 k run 10...
