Re: Relatively Weak 2km Time

Fascinating read of back and forth banter. I guess I feel compelled to throw my two cents in here on the topic of stroke rate. From a pure efficiency standpoint, it makes sense to train at a low SPM. The professional coaches are not wrong, if you want to be fast on the erg and produce better times t...

Re: Age related decline

Sleep, nutrition are probably two of the largest factors that impact my performance. If I have granola the day before a tough row - I literally feel sluggish the next day and it shows in my numbers after the row. Now - that could be in my head, but I don't think so. I fully agree - that is, that sl...

Re: Aerobic fitness vs Strength

Now that I'm not training, just maintaining, it's all rowing, just because I like it better and am not as concerned about muscle strength. To each their own. However, the article is far from definitive and there are many other factors that come into play. Personally, I'd never stop squatting or dea...

Operative word being "may". Why not do both? No reason you can't train both.

Re: Just ordered...

Received mine. Box was damaged, so I crossed my fingers. Seems to be fine. Nothing obvious broken. I only had time to set it up quickly. I'll take it for a spin tonight.

Re: Just ordered...

Thanks! I will check the drag factor. Congrats to others who ordered theirs. Hopefully you get it soon. I am in the USA, MN specifically, and ordered from Amazon Prime late in the evening on the 20th. They said I would get it on the 25th. I was skeptical, but ordered anyway. I want one regardless if...

Re: The virus thread

Been prepping my 8th grader to break the 5 minute 1600m before transitioning to the 400m for track season (assuming there is one). I have been running again too along with him. I have a home gym, full setup, but was missing a rowing machine. Ordered a Model D, should be here on Wednesday, according ...

Just ordered...

Just ordered a Concept 2 Model D. If all goes well, it should be here on Wednesday. Not being able to go the gym and use theirs for the week has been difficult. Figured this is a sound investment that should last many years, even decades. Even if life returns to normal quicker than anticipated, it w...

Re: good form = butt worked?

Yeah, I would not say bad form necessarily. Just muscle imbalance. Sometimes it takes a while for neglected muscle groups to catch up. The glutes are often under utilized by many people. It isn't uncommon for many basic resistance users to neglect entire body parts. Glutes, Calves, Neck are probably...

Re: Straight legs before recovery?

I feel like I get more power and control when I leave a slight bend in my legs at the knees. Same here. I have a slight bend. I never lock out completely. Though I have experimented with locking out, it just seems too awkward, unnatural and uncomfortable, that I leave it as is. Of course, I am gene...

Re: What 2km pace shall I attempt, given...

in Paris was exceptional in that they scheduled the 500m for the evening of the night before the 2k. FWIW I then did a SB 2k at home 3 days after I got two Silver in Paris. Wow, impressive. After you claimed your 2 silvers in Paris, what did your training look like for the next week? I would imagin...

Re: What 2km pace shall I attempt, given...

Threads like these scare me from even trying an all out 2K. I can almost feel the lactic acid build-up when I watch the world championships. What is the recovery time, on average, for an all out 2k? I think I would be wrecked for about a week. I am also curious how the 2K went for the OP.

Keep in mind that the weight-adjusted score is comparing you not to one individual erger or rower, but rather to an average score from a hypothetical...

Re: new to running - HR recovery

Walking on flat treadmill peaks out around 115 bpm. Elevation ends up aggrevating big toe arthritis. I'm not taking 'breaks', as in stopping. Just switching between run and walk. When I read threadmill.... GO OUT, walk, run outside. Really if i5 was on me, treadmills would be forbidden. Not sure wh...

Re: new to running - HR recovery

Running (anything 800M+) is a sport which heavily favors low BMI individuals. Rowing, doesn't. If there isn't a pace that you can run at, while keeping your HR from entering the anaerobic zone, then you will need to switch to incline walking if you want to train under the 75% HR threshold. This is p...
