You might also be able to open the PM2 up, disconnect the original battery tray, add a new battery tray on like the one below. You'd have to solder it, but it's only two connections. I would not use a WD-40 brand product for lubricating the chain. They do not have the proper viscosity. You can probably find a 20 wt oil from a motorcycle supply shop or store. Fork oil is usually in that range.

It might work, it might not, but we use hair spray to attach motorcycle grips to the bars. The advantage of this is that you can get them off without having to cut the grips, and they stay firmly attached at speed.

I did not see a pic. If acid from the battery leaked onto the board it may be creating a short. Providing it did not damage any components, or recut the trace you may be able to clean it up.
