Re: New PM5 Data Restoration
I will be factory default resetting my PM5 at the beginning of every season on the 1st May anyway. Just out of curiosity, what's the benefit of resetting your PM5 to factory default every season? For long-term (i.e., multiyear) warranty/maintenance/resale/part replacement issues, wouldn't it be adv...

Re: Calculate moving time only
It's not possible. If you have a design change requirement write to info@concept2.com to ask them to implement it (if possible). I don't think this is true. As noted above, you can just set up a variable interval workout if you know exactly how long you want to do non-rowing activities in between r...

Re: Ergdata, the C2 Logbook, and rest meters
Yep. But C2 has been pretty upfront about that. In the summary for every workout it provides three distances: - "Meters" at the top, under the green icon (these are your 'active' interval meters) - Rest Distance (in the table below the green icon summary) - these are your meters completed during res...

Re: Heart Rate Zones
I tried googling and was unable to find anything definitive pointing to 78% or any other number. A quick check of a medical study to see how it defined zone 1 found they were using per athlete lactate testing rather than an estimation formula which makes sense. Net: I can't point you to where this ...

Re: Boredom question
For me, three things are key to helping with boredom: 1. Having a clearly defined goal to chase (an upcoming race, a new PB, etc.). Everyone's different, of course, but for me just thinking about the 'big picture' of my overall health, etc., isn't concrete enough to keep me interested . . . I need a...

Re: Warn up and cool down concept 2 question
For anything less than a 60' ss, I do 15' wu, regardless of type of workout and follow a similar strategy as btlifter of slowly ramping up the pace/rate until I hit what I need for the session. Probably more than I need for strictly 'warm-up' purposes (especially for UT1/UT2 sessions), but I figure ...

Re: 80/20 What?
Also keep in mind that much (but not all!) of the research (including Seiler's) is done on elite athletes who are doing high volumes of training. So, while an 80/20 ratio might be ideal for someone who does, say, 10 workouts/week, it might not be ideal for someone who only does 3 sessions week. The ...

Re: ErgData average HR solutions?
You have the solution I use "downloading the data into excel" although I don't use excel. I download the stroke rate data into a spread sheet. Measured Heart Rate is reported for every stroke. I usually graph the data and eyeball the curves but you could easily average the HR data. This would give ...

Re: ErgData average HR solutions?
When setting up your rows you can change the number of splits to a maximum of 52 on the PM5 so thats plenty of data points for anything I do. I'm not sure I see how this helps me get the Average HR over a set piece or interval. That would just give me 52 data points to manually average instead of t...

Re: ErgData average HR solutions?
Sorry, but it is ridiculous to say that HR is useless (if not worse) for rowing, or that rating is entirely equivalent. In any case, I didn't ask a question about the utility of HR as a training tool. If you want to talk about that, perhaps we can create a different thread in the training section. I...

ErgData average HR solutions?
Hi All: I think it is pretty well known that ErgData doesn't provide an Average HR for any intervals, and instead it just spits out the final HR at the instant the interval ends. When the data are imported into Strava, then you do get both a Max HR and an Average HR, but unfortunately it is the aver...

Re: ISS Interactive Plan Errors, Inconsistencies, and Oddities
The first set I saw also used ratings as control: 18-20 UT2, -23 UT1, -28 AT, which could help with learning to row, if we follow the instructions and use a double control: HR Range (Karvonen) and Rating, so that 23 is fast and HR shows it. Yes, good point. In addition to HR and %2kPower, O'Neill e...
