Re: 60 000 m a week is killing me
I put 1/16" adhesive backed hard rubber sheet under the flexfoot, big improvement for me, keeps the loose flexfoot from turning by adding some friction under it, and it reduces the angle of the foot stretcher. Surely by reducing the angle of the foot stretcher can't be a good thing!!! You're puttin...

Re: 60 000 m a week is killing me
Thank you all for showing interest in my problems. Today I covered the PM screen with a towel and rowed easy for 70 min. I tried to pause at the finish, then hands away, body over, then slowly going to recovery with my hands before the catch phase again. The results were quite surprising. My average...

Re: 60 000 m a week is killing me
"How many meters a week do you guys row?" A lot less than 60k / week. For me rowing is just part of my workout routine, that's focused on cardio plus some moderate strength and core exercises using weights and kettlebells. The whole point of the workouts is to promote overall fitness, and if I thou...

Re: 60 000 m a week is killing me
That weekly volume is not too much generally tbh. I was doing about 70-80k a week at one time but never felt totally trashed from it. I only cut down because i prioritized muscle building with weights as a more important goal. How are your rest days spent? do you get good amounts of deep sleep etc....

60 000 m a week is killing me
I'm doing 60 000m a week, usually 4-5 sessions. At least 2 sessions are intervals, such as 6x4 min w/3 min rest @5kp or 5x8 min w/2 min rest @LT (AnT) pace. Some weeks I go for a half marathon time trial, 1:25-1:27h. This week I did Mon: 5x8 min w/2 min rest @LT (AnT) pace Tue: Easy 60 min Wed: Rest...

Re: Drag factor
For me as a short rower, I find it difficult to row at lower DF. I usually row at DF between 125-129. If it gets lower than this, I tend to take more strokes per min. At DF 128 I took 31 spm on average for a half marathon (1:25:29). If DF was higher I believe, the spm would be at least 2 strokes low...

Re: Ring finger pain while rowing
Curious that it only happens when you are doing half marathons. What about if you are doing intervals or 20 minutes into a shorter piece like a 10k? Are you taping your fingers or wrists to prevent blisters on your HM? Perhaps that's the issue. I don't wear any protection, just raw hands on the han...

Ring finger pain while rowing
When doing half marathons, sometimes my ring finger hurts after 20-25 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I guess it has to do with nerves. Any advice how I can avoid this?

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Today was a good day for doing a HM. New PB 1:25:29 which gives a 9th place in the Concept2 Rankings in my age group and weight class (verified workouts only). Great result and great pacing too. Its a long way to keep a level pace that will see you to a PB and stick with it. [/quote] Thanks, it sur...

Re: Rectal problems (Sensitive topic)
A short update. The (pretty large) external hemorrhoid lasted for three weeks. Glad to hear that things are looking up. I'm sure the docs gave you the info on the "best practices" to avoid this in the future, but if not: 1) lots of fiber in your diet and lots of fluids, 2) no straining (whether "on...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Great job everyone! I’ve been doing half marathons for three consecutive weeks now and each week I set a new PB. Really proud of my time today since I climbed the rankings. 1:26:07 done by a short and skinny, weak guy (62.4 kg). This is currently the 10th fastest time (verified only) this season in ...

Yesterday I set a new half marathon PR. Don’t know how to attach pictures so here’s a link to my Instagram post https://www.instagram.com/p/B5x3Ib1n_9d/?igshid=1lqywvilsqekx Was out of training for three weeks due to hemorrhoid issues. Slowly building intensity again. Rowing is tough for short skin...

Why only two weight classes?
In mixed martial arts there are 14 weight classes, in boxing 17. But in rowing, there are only two weight classes. Rowing is about generating power per and it’s easier to generate power if you’re heavier. I guess it has to do with history and perhaps the Olympics. I think however it’s a legitimate q...
