Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

Spending time in the grey zone will not overtrain anybody. Spending too much time at intensity (let's call that anything above the first ventilatory threshold, or zones 2 & 3 on a 3 zone model) will probably overtrain anybody. ^That's an important distinction. We can all quibble about the details, ...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

What's your connection with the rowing world, a school? What's your next test, and when? Are you following a progressive plan already? Club rower pushing for Junior GB squad. Next test is a 5k@26 on the 2nd of march. I'm not sure on the progressive-ness of my plan but workinh off hr so as I get fit...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

All my easier UT2 sessions are at almost the exact same as yours (68-70%) but the intervals seem to be my missing ingredient in my general training however am doing significantly more at the moment due to an upcoming 5k test Possibly you're going too slow. I have anecdotally heard people say about ...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

Have you increased your weight training in duration or exertion? This may mean your muscles are always tired and unable to perform at their highest level. It might be worth cutting baclk a little on this for a week and seeing what effect that has on your rowing performance. I would also say that tr...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

I use a HR montior to keep UT2 at the correct intensity but towards the higher end. Might be worth dropping the HR half a dozen pips maybe? If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got. Have a play around, and see what happens. I have massively benefited from d...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

IF your splits are going soft on you then read about the symptoms of overtraining. If you have them take a week off then start up again. https://www.healthline.com/health/signs-of-overtraining IF you do not have symptoms of overtraining then you have plateaued. Mix up workload. Try two pieces of ha...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

If your doing 12 sessions a week but only 70k UT2, what else are you doing? Previously I was doing more UT2 probably about 6 sessions a week on the erg with 3 on the water sessions aswell and a couple of weights sessions. More recently with covid it's been a lot more weights, more of a body buildin...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

Tell us about your height and typical current work: Watts and rating. How much time do you spend afloat and in what type of boat? Have you raced at school or anywhere else? Hi there one 6'2/188cm and normally do UT2 at 20spm for a minimum of an hour up to an hour and a half. Split seems to be a 2:0...

Re: Ideal km target for junior rower

My immediate thought is to mix in some short and medium length intervals. It sounds like you're getting a little stagnant, hitting a plateau. Intervals will stimulate different muscles and ramp up your CV system (not to mention your mind), maybe get you back on an upward trend. Perhaps try somethin...

Ideal km target for junior rower

Hi there, I'm a soon to be 17yr old rower competing at a relatively high level trying to break into the GB J18 team. I've been putting in a lot of sessions (2 a day) 6 days a week including weights, UT2 and recovery sessions for the most part of the past 4 months trying to improve my fitness. Howeve...

Re: HR Zones

Hi there. Just purchased a Polar OH1 HR monitor for the main purpose of keeping my HR down on long UT2 pieces. <> Any thoughts on what to go off? Thanks, Charlie Charlie, I'm not sure I understand your question (it did go on a bit). First of all, remember that HR is a proxy for metabolic processes ...

HR Zones

Hi there. Just purchased a Polar OH1 HR monitor for the main purpose of keeping my HR down on long UT2 pieces. My first piece (2x6k) was at a 152 hr and a 2.13 split. Repeating the workout the week after at a 154 required my splits to drop by 10 seconds to a 2.03 to reach the new HR derived from a c...

Re: Training more but getting slower/not improving

Before i started taking training really seriously I was doing the very short erg sessions and usually about 10 k on the water, 5 easy and 5 as a piece back. Jumped into about 2 or 3 x6k when I got my own erg and doubled the number off sessions. I can't remember how much rest I was taking but am now...

Re: Training more but getting slower/not improving

<> Patience is unfortunately not one of my virtues no matter how hard I try for it to be. I always want to see my results as soon as possible as afterwards but the current situation would give me time to not have to stress about seeing results, despite the increase of ergs and numerical data What d...

Re: Training more but getting slower/not improving

what did your training ramp up look like when you started adding in more volume of erging? Did you just jump right into 1.5 hour pieces? and what did it look like before? Reason i ask is, you often have to increase length of pieces and/or total volume gradually. Just because it feels easy when you ...
