Re: Fused Ankle
Thanks. I think my foot and toes will remain flexible. I had ankle replacement and that worked fine--I was rowing in 8 weeks. The implant has failed though. The fusion takes much longer to recover. I suspect I won't row for a year.

Re: Fused Ankle
Thanks. Possible, though my gym does not have one. Someone suggested it after the implant, though the weight bearing on the ski seems like have more impact than rowing.

Re: Fused Ankle
Thanks. I went through those links too. Looks like there are ways. I don’t own the machine, it’s in the gym where I work. They probably won’t like drilling or retro fitting. I’ll figure something out.

Fused Ankle
Two years ago I had a complete ankle replacement. I was able to row after several months of recovery. Sadly, the implant is failing and I must have it removed. The next step is an ankle fusion. The fusion will take a year of recovery and I will have very limited range of motion. Anyone out there row...

Re: Ankle Replacement.
I think it will be about eight weeks. The fibula is broken during the procedure. And it’s hurting like hell currently.

Ankle Replacement.
This is/was my first season rowing. I started to get in shape for my ankle replacement. I rowed over 500K, lost 31 lbs, feel great. Yesterday the surgery happened. I will really miss rowing, and hope to get back to it in a few months. The surgery, as you can imagine, cost a ton of money. I started a...

Ankle replacement
Does anyone have any experience with an ankle replacement and rowing? This is my 5th month of rowing. I put in about 45K a week and did the 21K Solstice nonstop. In a month, though, I have to get my ankle replaced. Oddly, I can’t walk very far, but I can row without too much pain. I know I’ll be com...
Re: New Rower
Thanks, makes sense. Did my first 10K today. Probably was around 23 s/m avg. I'm exhausted.
Re: New Rower
Following much of the above advice. I'm now rowing 6.5K/day, and have gotten down to 22 s/m. I just read a post about damper levels on the main page that said try for 26-28 s/m. Why are they suggesting such a high s/m? At any rate, feeling good, increasing time and distance.
Re: New Rower
I'm guessing drag factor is about 140--damper was on 5 (I dialed it down from the 10 I found it on). Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it.
Re: New Rower
Averaged 24 spm today, down from 27. Hard to get the rhythm.
Re: New Rower
Thanks everyone--exactly the advice I was seeking.

Re: New Rower
Update: Rowing today (I do use the log, but want to provide info for anyone wanting to give advice). 2000m; 10:02 with one minute rest at 1000m; 27 s/m; damper was on 5 (PM4 machine).
New Rower
Hi: I'm 56, 106.5 kg, and 1.88 m. I just started rowing. I don't have much wind because I have an ankle that needs replaced and haven't done cardio for years (the rowing seems ok for the ankle--it always hurts, so . . .). I started about two weeks ago. Jumped on and could barely do 3 mins. Currently...
