Re: Sub 6:30 by October. Training advice

What's a good interim target for a 10k bike? Not expecting to match anything close to an equivalent to my rower PBs. Hey, look at the rankings your age: https://log.concept2.com/rankings/2023/bikeerg/10000?age=30-39&gender=M&status=verified Under 19min is between 50th and 75th percentile, so not re...

Re: Sub 6:30 by October. Training advice

Yeah. I was training for the season. Mostly strength and power stuff with just a bit of cardio, but that's all gone down the drain. I'm enjoying what I'm doing now and it's working so will stick with this for another 4 or 5 months and see if I can get under 110kg for the first time in 15 years. Nar...

Re: Help me help an 80 year old man

Thank you to everyone who posted! Especially the older blokes! This is all great advice, and has made me feel a lot more confident about the whole thing.

You are right. I probably am overthinking this. He's a smart guy who has rowed before. He's gonna figure this out and will be absolutely fine.

Re: Help me help an 80 year old man

Good call on the drag.

In terms of technique. What's a good starting point. I can't train with him. I see him once a week to drop his groceries off on his front step while he stays inside, but that's it.

Any good videos for old men?

Re: Sub 6:30 by October. Training advice

5 months later... Only rowing twice a week now. The rest is weights and circuits. Have just bought a bike to get to work which is gonna up my mileage. Just did 17:50 on a 5k. Not terrible but miles away from where I was. Amazing how fast you lose it when the volume drops. On the plus side I'm now co...

Help me help an 80 year old man

Hi folks. It's been a while. I'm still plugging away on the rower, but focusing more on weights for now. However, I need advice for someone else. At my dad's request. I've just ordered a new Concept2 for him. This should arrive in a week or two. About my dad - 80 years old - on lock down because of ...

Re: Maintaining Fitness - Proposed routine

The best threads generate good discussion! Haha. I think it's hard to tell. So many variables go into performance. It might be the sugar, it might be something else. I think we get better at figuring this out with experience, but its still guess work. Yeah. I'm reasonably happy. Made the active choi...

Re: Maintaining Fitness - Proposed routine

Week 2. Tuesday. 4 x 1500 with 5 minutes rest. Last week this went well. With a 1:41.8 average vs a 1:42.0 target. This week, not so much at all. Pace per rep 1:41.9 1:41.9 1:43.6 1:44.9 Average 1:43.1 All went to hell half way through rep 3 and was a real grind to finish at all. Big backwards step ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Week 1 of 17. 4 x 1500m. 5 minutes rest Pace 1:42.0 1:41.9 1:41.9 1:41.4 This felt tough. A lot of soreness from my first hard weight session yesterday. Happy with the fast finish. This is my only serious row each week. How this goes will be a measure of my ability (or not) to retain rowing fitness...

Re: Maintaining Fitness - Proposed routine

I like the addition of the circuit days, to get the whole body metabolically ready to just work and work and work. Just a suggestion, go online and find cross-fit workouts of the day to mix those up and keep everything fresh and challenging. They're usually about 20 minutes, some of them involve eq...

Re: How to determine pace range for different rows

This is one beef I have with a lot of the popular programs. There are so many different distances and workouts its hard to get the pacing right. This seems pretty offputting for beginners. My suggestion is try and find 2 or 3 workouts you like and stick with them. Try and go a little faster each wee...
