Re: Holiday Challenge - Incredible Meters???
I'm finally on board with ErgData. It's GREAT. I'm sorry to have been such a Luddite! Even BED, I've long wondered why someone would fudge their meters. For the big prize money? But, of course, some do. Curious. But yeah, having a level playing field is preferable. Even as a non-competitive rower, I...

Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in August - To go or not?
I'm considering attending as a spectator this summer. If anyone has been there either as a participant or a visitor, can you recommend going or is it really not worth it? I've really enjoyed watching the Henley Royal Regatta in the UK via streaming but I'm not likely to ever get there. The Canadian ...

Re: Cleaning the monorail
I have used water, Windex or Fantastic after every session, all of which did an okay job but I still would get a residue build up resulting in "rough ride," and the seat would not slide back on its own to the forward position. I read here some years back to use a drop or two of mineral oil on either...

Re: Pimp my Erg
Not sure this counts as pimping out my erg but on the flywheel's metal screen I have small Purdue Crew (my son rowed there) logo magnet along with a 3" magnetic button showing I'm in the C2 8MM Club facing me. These trinkets help motivate me from time to time. (No, I don't feel the minor air blockag...

Re: Recovery after exercise?
Parky -- I agree that proper form and technique is the foundation for everything. In fact, I rarely watch video when rowing because when I do, I tend to lose focus on my form and usually pay for it the next day. So I think my form is decent enough. Most likely what's getting me is that 2 prolapsed d...

Re: Recovery after exercise?
To clarify, after having talked with my son, his "~15K" daily winter erg session at Purdue included warm up meters followed by intervals of various intensities. He never wore a heart monitor -- Purdue is a CLUB team, not an elite Varsity team! (The constant emphasis was always on good form and ... n...

Re: Recovery after exercise?
FWIW -- my son rowed on Purdue University Crew ... a CLUB team. His coaches said team members could erg every day with no risk -- no muscle recovery needed, as is needed for lifting weights, for example -- even though he erged rather aggressively (~1:50 splits) for 15K workouts. I assume the coaches...

Re: Making a laptop holder for Concept2 D
I have been using a hospital table -- on wheels, adjusts up and down and tilts. I bought it for working in bed but has worked VERY well for when I want to watch MotoGP races or regattas when I erg. The flywheel drowns out the not-too-loud laptop so use hard wired ear buds. Bluetooth buds would be th...

Re: Build up of black stuff on rollers
Despite cleaning with a glass cleaner after every session, the rollers still built up tenacious black crud leading to a rough ride that got to be distracting. The rail, however, always cleaned up like new. Some years back I read, likely on this forum, of someone using a few drops of mineral oil on e...

Re: Big swollen left foot...
Some thoughts for your consideration. At 67 after rowing rowing hard, I'll get some numbness in some of my toes on my left foot for the past couple of years. No notable swelling, however. My nurse practitioner said as we age, the padding on the bottoms of our feet start to wear out, subjecting nerve...

Re: My Model D is developing a creaking sound on the recovery
Some months back, I was having some distracting new noises coming from my Mod D. Snugging up all the fasteners on the two foot stretchers solved the problem.
In fact, snugging up all of the fasteners on the erg from time to time probably isn't the worse idea.

Re: It’s been 20 years should I buy an erg
I finally bought a Model D two years ago when my health club wouldn't or couldn't maintain theirs, rendering them terrible to row on. Now, not only do I get on a sweet erg every time (but there is some basic maintenance you'll need to keep up with), my annual meters have easily doubled since it's so...

Re: Anyone tried VR rowing?
I cannot speak to your question about VR rowing but as far as motivation goes, I've found participating in C2's many Challenges a fantastic motivator. But a big one for me: a year ago I joined a virtual team -- there are hundreds. I have found the "competition" of being on the team has often pushed ...

Re: Hit my million!
First, congratulations. Sounds like it's the first of many million meter plateaus. This can be mildly addictive stuff. Secondly, a lot -- likely most -- people don't get erging. But as Louis Armstrong is credited with saying about jazz -- "if you don't feel it, I can't explain it." The same could be...

Re: The Swingulator sweep erg?
Thank you, Citroen. The Rowing Innovations link was DOA. So this redesigned product in still sold in the UK. Seems like a great training option, at least based on the video which, of course, would be biased. I wonder why more teams don't use one. But then, when my son rowed at Purdue, the boat house...
