Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

Im a grappler. I get tons of zone 2 and zone 3 work. Thus my focus on zone 1, which I dont get at all. So im not concerned about making sure im getting enough zone 2/3. Im probably getting too much already. I need to build a cardio base. The current calculations for zone 1 without lactate threshold ...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

Im doing polarized training and trying to keep my heart rate at 105, or 110, or whatever. If I pull any harder, my HR exceeds my zone 1. I can pull much much harder. But thats not the point. You glossed over the first part of my reply. Why do you have such a weak stroke? Seriously, I have to try ver...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

How much time do you plan to put in? The volume that elites do is tremendous. Are you prepared to sit on an erg for hours each day and row 200 km per week? Some of these olympic rowing programs have 20+ hours per week on an erg, in addition to many hours spent on a bike, and for many (not NZ), in t...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

I did experiment with Maffetone training last year. After 2 months I gave up as I felt I was actually training myself to have a weaker stroke in an effort to keep my HR in a very low range. I think that type of training only works for folks putting in lots of meters. I typically average only 125-17...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

Excellent post. Thank you so much. Only issue is... im so "edurance weak" im not even capable of those tests. An FTP test... hahahhahaa no way. Even a 20 min all out effort... forget it. Id fall apart so fast. I would have to do it soooo slow, it would be a joke, and im not sure it would provide use...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

I think you're WAY over complicating things. You keep bringing up what world class athletes do. Are you world class? Probably not, so don't try and do what they do. We have research on this. Dr Seiler was asked the question if this type of training used by elite athletes scaled down to regular non-...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

Just goes to show how different individuals can be, and how the respond to training stress. But I simply cannot ignore the detailed mountain of evidence, with regards to how the best in the world train. There is a lot of data now, since elite athletes wear devices all the time now. One of the best X...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

PS guys, ive done HIIT style training on my rower for over a decade. Ive never been injured, because my form is really good. Practiced it a lot. Shit form at high power/sprints = injuries. Now im switching gears and only doing endurance training on the erg. THIS IS COMPLETELY NEW TO ME :) So reading...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

Found some good quotes from Dr Seiler on how to fine zone 1 without a lactate test If you haven’t had lactate measured then Dr Seiler gives estimates based on HRmax / HRpeak, from the podcast notes: If you want to find the first lactate turn point, you ideally need to measure lactate. As a reasonabl...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

I think what im looking for is a good proxy for setting my zone 1 properly ( out of 3 for polarized training ) without going to a lab every month.

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

Ok, I need to clarify something. The only reason im doing 30 mins right now is because im starting from completely sedentary and didnt want to shock my system too hard. I was planning on 30 min rows for week 1 or 2 only, then move to 45, then to 1 hour rows minimum. I dont want to do any other kind ...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

100 watts is about a 2:30 pace. 2:30 is reasonable for long slow, but maybe not when you are just starting. If you can hit 2:00 spits for 15 mins during a hard workout then 2:30 long slow is reasonable/perfect. I definitely cannot do 2:00 splits for 15 mins. No way. If you are more like 2:15 for 20...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

So if I use a 2K that im pretty sure I could do right now.... an 8:30 - or something close to that. And take the average watts, and use 60% of that as "endurance training" for long rows... that would put be at 101.4 watts as my target. That seems a lot more reasonable. Hmmmmmmm. I try 30 mins and se...

Re: Am I sick??? shocked by my numbers

Ok even I am not THAT bad. I could probably do a 2K in 8:40 right now, no problem. Im 160lb. The thing thats really throwing me off, is the fact that the insane endurance athlete are putting so much volume in around 60% of the HR max, which just doesnt work for me. Its TOO EASY. I may have to try so...
