Re: 2020 Goals
I just cleared 1 million meters for May through December, where the year before I only scraped by with a few hundred meters over 1 million as the season ended April 30th. So now that I have that in the bag, my 2020 goal is to hit the 5 million lifetime (recorded, I'm sure I'm past that unrecorded)--...

Re: Rowed 19:46 5k at 40 s/m today
This raises the question, what do most people regard as their optimum stroke rate when attempting a PB in the 5K? I would probably aim for 25/26 for the first half and 27/28 for the second half, but I'm a 48 y.o. lightweight with good cardio endurance and less power (about 7.5 watts/stroke), so I'm ...

This Holiday Challenge is Grueling
I'm going to put it out there and see if anyone wants to sympathize: this Holiday Challenge is so hard! I'm 48 y.o., have rowed for 20 years, and recently have upped my erging--doing about 1m meters per year for the past couple years. I aim for 25k per week usually, and average around 100k to 120k p...

Re: C2 Seat Pads
I have seen the ones with holes, so I know what you mean, but I bought a rowing seat cushion--a big, fat memory foam one, about 3 inches thick, with elastic straps to attach to the seat--and I've loved it. I'm pretty bony, and I used to get terrible blisters from my tailbone. I had resorted to putti...

Re: Logging non-workout "Just row" rows?
Absolutely. You can try it even with just a 100m or whatever. About five seconds after you stop rowing, an inquiry will pop up, asking "Are you finished?" If you touch "yes" it will log it. I do what you're saying all the time.

Re: How to row to music?
I row to music all the time, and (because I'm old school in my basement where my rowing machine is), I burn mix CDs for rowing. (Yes, I have Spotify and other services elsewhere... :D ). If you want to emphasize pairing your rowing to a steady beat, you can find lots of people who have created mixes...

Re: Please help me row slower...
Regarding the original question ... have you tried rowing 30 or more minutes with the monitor folded away? If not, maybe give it a go. It's a good way to take a break from trying to beat your previous marks and just concentrating on finding a rhythm. It doesn't have to be an easy row either — you c...

About the really long-distance erging...
I've been erging for about 20 years, since I started with a graduate school on-the-water team. Lately, I've been particularly motivated by the challenges--because they're truly challenges. I don't know if, when everything combines (family, work, etc.), I'll be able to complete the 200k Holiday Chall...
