Re: 2nd week of beginner Pete Plan - form feedback request

Hi Dalos, There's no particular place for people who are doing the BPP. The only way I know about others are the responses at the end of this thread: https://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=193211 I'm new to this and others should correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have questions or thoughts al...

Re: 2nd week of beginner Pete Plan - form feedback request

Hi Jeremy, I'll leave it to others to help out with form, but I wanted to say welcome to the forum and to the small group of us I'm aware of who are currently doing the Beginner Pete's Plan. I'm just ahead of you starting week 4, and I think Kevin (GreenStratMan) and Sabrina are in or around week 12...

Re: Starting BPP?

Thanks so much, Sabrina! You and Kevin are both 9 weeks in — very cool. I start week 2 tomorrow. Thanks for pointing out the ~3-minute increase. That does indeed sound more manageable.

Re: Starting BPP?

To your point, Ripples and Citroen, in my case the formula is definitely off. I tried for a maximum yesterday and got 171 bpm (as opposed to 220 minus my age of 55 which gives me 165). My resting heart rate yesterday was 53. Using the description hjs gave for reserve, my 75% cap would be 142 bpm. (I...

Re: Overwhelmed Beginner

Hi KG, from one short female beginner to another, welcome! It sounds like I'm just a few months ahead of you in getting accustomed to the lingo and working on technique. I enjoy all the nerdy nuances of rowing. People have been very welcoming here, and my form and stamina have already improved. I fo...

Re: Starting BPP?

Wow, so much helpful advice here. Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate the heart rate information and the help with customizing my window. I hadn’t grasped the idea of reserve. Kevin, getting to week 9 after that extent of muscle loss is extraordinary and very motivating. Dangerscouse, I’m always g...

Re: Starting BPP?

This explains so much! Thank you both for the detailed descriptions of the three training types. Ok, one more question. It happens that I received a heart rate monitor for Christmas (thank you Husband!), and used it for the first time this morning. I rowed 5k at a 2:55 pace at r19 with an average he...

Re: Starting BPP?

Very useful explanation -- thank you! What's a UT2 session? I've gathered that it's slower and longer, but I'm not sure what UT2 means or what makes a long session UT2. The BPP will be the longest distances I've ever rowed, but I assume those aren't considered UT2. Is that right? Is there a stroke r...

Re: Starting BPP?

Thank you both for the good news and encouragement. Mitchel, I'll heed your advice! Dangerscouse, I just looked over the last several entries in the log. My stroke rate is 19-21 and my drag factor is 93-95. What does that tell you?

Starting BPP?

Hello all, I’m a relative beginner and just finished 100k for the Holiday Challenge (hooray!), rowing 5k daily with some rest days each week. I’m considering how to train next, and I’m wondering if I can take on the BPP. I would row 3-4 days per week and work on strength training on the other three ...

Re: Inhale on the drive or the recovery?

I meant to say I've ruled out two breaths per stroke not I've ruled out breathing twice. That would be problematic!

Inhale on the drive or the recovery?

From my browsing on the forum I get the sense that there's a difference of opinion on this subject but I didn't find more. Can someone explain the merits of each or point me to an explanation? I'd like to try to establish a pattern while I'm learning to perfect my stroke. And if it matters to the su...

Re: Question about beginner rowing

Thank you, mitchel674. I'll do what you suggested so that I have the rest days. I really appreciate the reality check about injuries because I've been there before.

Kind regards,
Theresa

Re: Question about beginner rowing

Thanks, everyone for your thoughts and your kindness. Mitchel674, I appreciate the suggestion of a more conservative stroke rate ladder. To answer your question, my typical workout before the challenge is ~30 minutes at 20-22 spm. I didn’t look much at the distance or the pace before — I was just tr...

Question about beginner rowing

I just had a demoralizing workout and I'm not sure how to proceed. I don't know if I should continue with the Holiday Challenge or do something else because it's too hard for me. I'm a 55 yo woman, 5'3 120lbs. I was regularly rowing for 25-30 minutes, 3x per week before starting this challenge, and ...
