Foot position when rowing
I’m a hockey player and use c2 rower for general fitness and recover from injury. I have a question on foot position on the c2. I’m quite tall 189cm but most of my height is due to long legs I seem to overreach on my Stoke so that my shins go further than the vertical about the 11 o’clock position i...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Did a 5k today with my HR at 160 and felt fine sweating buckets but felt very loose r20. Last week I did a 5k with HR at 140 20 second slower at r22 and felt awful. Strange how time, rate and HR don’t always correspond with perceived effort or enjoyment.

Re: Question on rowing form: shins passing vertical
Is this shins crossing vertical a major issue, Yes, it implies a weak catch posture (due to the closed knee angle) with the weight off the feet and a slow catch using the arms. This in turn leads to high ratings that do not train the stroke. What rating do you use in your 200W half-hour? If over 20...

Re: Question on rowing form: shins passing vertical
Thanks all. Makes sense I’ll try these things flexfoot higher and chest to legs before the catch I did think it might be because I’m not flexing enough at the waist.

Question on rowing form: shins passing vertical
I’ve just had a mirror installed in my home gym and I’ve noticed when I row my shins are passing vertical. I generally let them pass to the 11 o’clock position. When I correct this to stop at vertical it feels like I’m shortening the stroke and my rate/times drop a bit. Is this shins crossing vertic...

Re: Focus vs. Distraction
d and occasionally e. If I listen to or watch anything else I slow down. Only recently I have been able to let my mind wander and not change rate or split and only on longer steady pieces.

Re: Struggling
If you’re 18st and 5’10” gym goer and fairly fit these times are pretty slow therefore it can only be technique. Even if you don’t row much, with a basic technique and not much rowing you can be around 2:10-2:15 pace for these longer distances. Definitely worth posting a video for advice.

Re: 6 months off the erg
These ergs have memories, if you don’t pay them enough attention they punish you in all sorts of terrible ways when you return! Main thing is not to get down about it. 5-6 sessions you’ll be back to steady improvements. I also play aerobic sports in the winter season and when I go back to the erg af...

Re: Advice for 4 week lockdown training plan.
Thanks guys first 4 weeks of the BPP looks like the best option in that it’s all planned out and seems to have both elements covered.

Advice for 4 week lockdown training plan.
I usually row during April-Sept when the football season has ended (I’m 49 and I find it’s impossible to row at same time as playing competitive sports at my age). Due to UK lockdown no sports are on so it’s erg time. Can anyone suggest a loose 4-5 week lockdown training plan with n end goal (rowing...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I’d recommend the BPP once you have got a few hundred KM under your belt. It’s a fair amount of meters and requires a bit of discipline but you make massive improvements. I generally row 400k a year in the football off season for the last 3 years, this year I did BPP during uk covid lockdown and aro...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
I’m week 3 in the beginner Pete plan as I break from erging in the winter I needed a 6 month plan to keep my discipline over summer and hopefully I go through the winter season with at least 15-20k a week. I’m actually really enjoying the discipline and start feeling guilty if I miss a day....I’m re...

Re: Heart rate too high?
Thanks for the advice guys, she’s now rowing at 155-160 max on the beginner Pete plan. Week 3 I think she’s fine, when I passed in the feedback she admitted she’d been pushing it. She just didn’t want to admit her crappy times as her 60kg teenage daughter had just kicked her ass by 3 mins in a 5 k.

Re: Heart rate too high?
Thanks guys that’s clear then, didn’t realise the smaller heart thing. She’s not out of breath at 175 bpm good lungs small heart. I’ll advise here to stick to 150max for most of her training. I’m sure she’ll be ok once she gets into this plan and she’ll get faster for a giver HR. Weight loss is her ...
