Re: New 1 minute world record
Congratulations, Shawn! Great job. What was your Drag Factor?? By the sound of the flywheel, I am guessing it was 160+. Awesome power!

Re: Low rate romance
Henry, that's just what my intuition says. I can believe, from an impact standpoint, it could cause damage if done too much and at more power. My back and neck tell me so. It is addictive - powering the pedals feels very productive and I know it is helping my stroke get better - but not worth getti...

Re: Pete 5k Plan then Pete Plan x 9 weeks = best 2K?
Some have found the PP hard to keep rolling through - have a good read through the last 2 PP threads from last year. Good advice from Lindsay. Almost all of the 50-somethings on the PP thread found the full PP very difficult to manage for long. I (age 54) did something similar to what you are sugge...

Re: UT2/Polarization (trying to move this from PB thread)
What's a good sprint try program to complement the ut2 rows. I used a rotation of 4x500 w 5', 5x375 w 5', 8x250 w 3.5' this year when I sought to polarize. All done at one to four splits faster than 1k pace. I found this speed fast enough to burn, but reasonable enough to maintain good form. Best. ...

Re: Pete Plan Autumn 2015
Just got home from CRASH-B's. Concept 2 put on another excellent event. I came into today nicely tapered and ready to race. My plan was to hold my average split at or around 6:39.5 for the first 1700m. From there, I would sprint with whatever I had left. Total time: 6:37.3. Average split: 1:39.3. 50...

Re: Pete Plan Autumn 2015
Once Chris' race is over, I might start a revised thread for those of us doing a modified PP. I just think that the Fall PP thread was race prep for this Winter. Most of the initial guys have fallen off the wagon so to speak or moved over to a different plan. Don't wait on me, Mike. I think it woul...

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
I think the reason I didn't feel I got much from a period of UT training was I wasn't doing any lifting and wasn't doing any sprints intervals. I'm not sure that a pure block of just easy aerobic for a length of time is something that works for me. Maybe that has to do with age, body type, an erosi...

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
BZZZ there it starts. lol. No worries, I've always viewed the low HR rate UT2 stuff as a way to warm up muscles and clear lactate in an effort to speed recovery. I thought that's why they were called 'recovery' rows lol. I know there are many experts who swear by it, doing those miles has really do...

Chris Ryan heat 9 Erg 1 at 11.10.
I will make sure to arrive in time to see you race, Ed and Mike. BTW, 6:26 at 165lbs in your 50s is insane, Mike! Very, very impressive. Good luck to you both with your final workouts. Best. - Chris

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
If O2 sat was your limiting factor should you then swap the UT2 for UT1 but perhaps with less frequency? Say 2x a week with more recovery time? At the risk of poking the bees nest on the forum, UT2 is a recovery pace not a training pace, right? UT2 is definitely supposed to be a training pace. For ...

Re: Pulling with the arms before the leg drive...
Just wondering? If a rower was start the arm pulling before finishing the leg drive do they actually make the legs work harder by shifting the force of pulling the handle to the leg drive? Being this rower is me I can relate: ). I can see where this would give the rower the illusion of a better str...

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
It's interesting how these types of threads quickly become circular and redundant. To help change gears, can we talk a bit about training for 1K distances? I think this is the next reasonable goal for me. Although not stellar, I'm happy enough with my current 500m time and would like to draw that d...

Re: Pete Plan Autumn 2015
I didn't even catch the 2.5 minute rest Chris. Yeah that one would have been very hard to pace. Probably 2K PB or so. I don't plan to do this one again any time soon. If I did, I would start at target 2k pace and very slightly negative split from there. This workout ended up being 2k-0.7. My last 8...

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
Another problem with high volume steady state is that it takes a while to yield observable benefits. In the end, I reaped benefits from it as I PRd across the distance spectrum this year at age 54. It took a couple of months before I really started to see significant improvement though. I get much q...
