Getting used to longer stroke....
Hi there, My coach has told me to make my stork longe bij getting my shins vertical. At first I found it very hard (I am 61 years old :-) ), but now it's been getting much more easy. Ergdata gives me a stroke length of +/- 145-150 in stead of 135-139 a couple of weeks ago. And yes, now the shins are...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
If you haven't got ErgData, or don't want to use Ergdata, you can also use a USB stick and upload it via the C2 utility that can be downloaded from the C2 website Hi, I do use Ergdata, but I did this 100m as one of a set of two. And Ergdata only wants to rank that as a 200 m :-)...... Next time I w...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
Hi Andre One more thing! If you are ranking pieces especially near the top like your 100m it is really good to have the time/distance verified by gaining a code from the PM and using it when you enter the result and rank it. Reduces the doubt and gives it much more credibility. Make sure the date s...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
My questions for you: - how can I build up my endurance without blowing myself up (I quite like to do longish sessions on the erg)? - what do my stats tell you? 100 m 16.3 -- 500 m 1:42.0 -- 4 minutes 1.52.8 This suggests you have plenty of strength, good technique (as also from your 2:08 @ 20: 167...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
I'll be 61 in 4 months Andre so have a bit of ''older person training'' experience, if you send me a Partner Request you can have access to my logbook and see the kind of training I do; https://log.concept2.com/profile/405493 That's great, thanks I will! What we can't share is the strength side. I ...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
“Hurtle” now or hurt more later, Henry? An intentional fly&die will tell you how much you can suffer without achieving much at all. Afterwards, you will be much more interested in how you can as well as what! If I may: I have tried a 500 meters today, so I have one stat more: 100 m 16.3 500 m...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
PB as a 61 year old LWT in 1000 m! I pulled a 3:26.5 on a dynamic erg and my previous best was in 2013 at 3:26.9 on a static erg. We can debate how much difference there is between a dynamic and static erg but I do know that in 2013 I was within 0.5 seconds at 1000 m on both ergs and the static erg...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
Welcome, Andre. You've provided some interesting information. Is there any reason you haven't tried a 2k TT now? It would be interesting for you to have a starting point to compare with your efforts as you train and repeat your 2k TT in a few months. I'll be honest with you..... I am afraid of the ...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
Andre, welcome to the forum and there's no need to apologise for asking for help...we are a very helpful bunch I'm not the best person to advise, and I'm sure other people will help out, but how far do you currently row for in 60 mins and how far would you like to row? 60 mins is a good length of t...

Re: 61-year old needs training advice
You are already doing a lot. And your 100m is already pretty strong, so enough potention. What you do lack is specific work. Otw work is usefull as your technique is good enough. Beginners who start otw often get slower on the erg. But given otw work is less in winter you can erg more in erg season...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Ok then, as newbie to this forum :-). A couple of weeks ago I tried a 100 meters, and did 16.8 seconds. Not unhappy with that! But last week I tweaked the parameters: damper at 5 instead of at 3, a couple of half strokes at the start, and most importantly: my daughter to motivate me :-). It worked ...
