Re: Setting up a training program?
I actually settled on 3 days on, 1 day off. It's not tied to weekdays, so it's more flexible..

Re: Setting up a training program?
The Wolverine Plan does seem to provide some good hints. My question about stroke rate was actually based on having read that doc years ago. I noticed that there's a doc with more detailed notes about the plan: https://quantifiedrowing.files.wordpress.com/2015/03/wp-notes.pdf It provides guidelines ...

Re: Setting up a training program?
I've seen that program, but not sure if I can handle it after just a few weeks of light training. It has a pretty high volume of high intensity work.G-dub wrote: ↑January 5th, 2020, 6:58 pmHere’s a thought:

Setting up a training program?
I posted a few other threads about training and got pretty good responses, so thank you everyone! I'm now trying to set up an actual training plan after about 3 weeks of taking easy to get to the point where I can row for 30min+ on three consecutive days without feeling any soreness in my arms. I've...

Safe rate for adding volume?
I started training again a few weeks ago after not having done much of anything at all for a few years. I used to row somewhat regularly and bought a C2 rower back in 2014 and used it quite a bit for about a year. The kids are finally getting old enough that I have some time to spare, so I would lik...

Impact of exercise on cardiovascular system?
I tend to like to read about topics more than necessary. I was wondering if anyone would have any links to articles that cover what happens when we adapt to exercise and under what time frames different adaptions start to happen? My understanding is that VO2max can be trained pretty quickly and that...

Finding the right drag factor?
I've seen quite a few posts here on the drag factor. I had previously been rowing at damper 4, which on my rower seemed to be a drag factor of about 117. I suspect that this is too low for a 190cm/95kg male. I've decided to try out my next workout at drag factor 130. However, I was wondering how peo...

Re: RowPro and heart rates
I tried to adjusting my age in RowPro and that allowed me to easily derive the equations that it uses to compute the bands. The only reason why I decided to use it is that it supposedly gives me progressively harder training plans. Don't really care about any of the graphics gimmicks and the first t...

RowPro and heart rates
Does anyone know what formulas are used to calculate the HR ranges for the different exercise types? My problem is that I'm 40 yo, my resting HR is 51 and max HR is 215. I can row for 30 minutes quite easily at a 180 HR while this us what the software thinks I should use at max effort. In other word...

RowPro + PM4 + Polar heart rate monitor
I'm evaluating which new HRM to buy. I have a PM4 and I'm thinking about getting a Polar Vantage V. It looks like the PM4 isn't compatible with new Polar heart rate sensors and all wrist based sensors I've tried were unreliable, so I would be using the chest strap during exercise. I noticed that Con...
Re: Lungs
Whenever I do a 2K test I taste blood in my mouth and I get a minor cough that lasts until the next day. I've also noticed that as long as I stay on the rower for around 5min rowing slowly after the 2K is over I will not die a painful death. If I immediately fall down on the floor the lactic acid wi...

Re: Adding UT2 volume
Just did a 60min session at 2:15/min and I kept my HR within the UT2 zone and I feel really happy about my progress. It also seems to help that I started lifting weights again after a 2 month break. Did a light 3x5 of ass to grass front squats last Friday with 80kg and another session on Monday. The...

Re: Adding UT2 volume
I did another 50min session. This time, I let my HR go up to 156 (average of 152) and made sure I was as upright as possible and reached as far as I could in the catch. This got my average pace down to 2:19/500m, i.e. 130W.

Re: Adding UT2 volume
hjs: The reason is that long slow work is the work I've never done. Typically things you have never trained give you the biggest improvement. My wife was an international level figure skater and when she does interval work her HR drops incredibly quickly after the interval is over. She used to train...

Re: Adding UT2 volume
My problem is really that if I put more power into the stroke (this is at 17SPM) my HR goes up to around 160. I can row at a HR of 160-170 for almost forever (tried 90 minutes a few weeks back and it felt light about 2:14/500m pace). However, doing almost any sort of activity my HR jumps above 150. ...
