Re: mid back fatique

That's a good point Cam. Artificially straightening your back constantly can just displace the strain to another area: you still need to be relaxed, but not slouched. Loose enough, but also slightly tensed enough to take the strain. This is massively helpful and to be brutally honest, I'm not sure ...

Re: mid back fatique

Been a few months since I responded as the CFA exam got in the way of much of my time toward end of last year. As suggested above, it seems my mid-back ache and fatigue is mostly due to poor form. The back issues persisted when I started rowing again mid-December after my exam. After looking at RVA ...

Re: mid back fatique

Regarding posture, have you watched any of RVA Performance videos on YouTube? When I’m thinking about keeping my back strait I channel Cassie. Watch how she keeps her arms strait out of the catch. Her form is awesome. https://youtu.be/r6T91GbWsBU Massive help - thanks. Fell out of the seat (figurat...

Re: mid back fatique

Fantastic - thanks fellas. @robbiep - I have been working on keeping a less rounded and straighter posture and given my tendency to slouch I wondered if simply I am not strong enough there. At times, I wondered if I was arching my back my trying to keep it too straight...it sometimes seems so awkwar...

mid back fatique

I'm on week 6 of the Pete Plan and working on baseline fitness. Not overdoing it but taking it easier based upon some wise advice here and my goal now being weight focused. So, I'm not overworking myself and concentrating on my form but after a few minutes of rowing, I end up feeling a bit of an ach...

Re: Improving my (beginning) training

Following a formula for determining your max HR is good enough for government work. Using RPE, as Stu suggested, is even better to determine UT2 HR. If I were you, which I'm not, I would ditch Pete Plan for now & just practice drills interspersed with some full strokes. Get your form down cold. I'v...

Re: Improving my (beginning) training

Thanks Dangerscouse! Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Slower seems the most appropriate way to go about this.

Re: Improving my (beginning) training

@lindsayh and @iain - thanks for the details. I understand the limitations of the estimated HR from that website but began to get curious in part because I appeared to be near their top range when rowing. I'm not really militant about the heart rate but was confused how to proceed and I wondered if ...

Re: Improving my (beginning) training

Perfect - thanks. I hope perhaps with continued effort one day my HR will gravitate lower as it takes less effort to move less (of my) mass. :D

Re: Improving my (beginning) training

Got it, thanks for the suggestion.

To reduce my HR, since I'm rowing at about 18 spm, the next step is to reduce my pace or should I slow the spm down as well?

Re: Rowing in Zwift - suggestion to make it happen

You can get it for free on deltarower.com. Drone shots, rowing under bridges. You can do that today. It doesn't have multiplayer. You already have the necessary hardware. All you need to do is download it and go. There is no hidden fees because there are no fees. Does Zwift offer that to you? How m...

Improving my (beginning) training

On again, off again rower here who is trying to get back on again. I've come back here since buying the erg and while my rowing is inconsistent, all the feedback here is fantastic. Been doing the short and sometimes medium WOD posted on Concept2 for the past few weeks. I'm 51, about 190lbs, and afte...

Re: Pete Plan Thread

Lost lost of ground last year with consistency or even rowing anything material. Starting over on the Pete Plan again this year, good year to start. some medication changes early last year and CFA Level 2 studies really took a toll on me. Back up to 200lbs and winded regularly. Did a couple easy row...

Re: Pete Plan Thread

Been a bit since the last post. Big Bend hike mid last month and a couple fits and starts so last week I picked back up at Week 9 and rowed Week 10 last night. Trying hard to stay motivated...that's the challenge. Been doing 1000 meter warmups for a few months but never include those. Sometimes its ...

Re: Pete Plan Thread

Been afk for a couple weeks. Work really in the way so while 8/20 was my last row, I picked things back up again and started again on Week 8 (where i left off) with the 8500 meter row. Tried to stay at a 2'35 pace then pushed a little near the end. It's long. It takes a long time. That's the frustra...
