..it involves more muscluature....
Yep I think this is it for me...
Rowing apparently uses 80% of overall muscluature so by time you've "binned" yourself on the erg you have an overall exhaustion..
Not sure why cycling is similar though...

Re: Thoughts to while away 60 min row

I totally agree. One update to the PM5 would be a larger color display that supports these streaming services. Also, as mentioned above headphones are the key to being able to listen at a reasonable volume level. Colour display supporting streaming services is a genius idea!!! I would buy one of th...

Re: Thoughts to while away 60 min row

Ha ha.. To be honest the question "Why am I doing this" definitely occurs to me at some point or other. I don't mind the 60' sessions too much, in fact I find it easier to sit on an erg for 60' than it would be to sit still in a library or something. I'm def going to try watching a TV series t...

Re: Pete Plan Thread

Thanks chaps, I've done the first cycle of the PP, but I was adding quite a lot of extra SS sessions (doing about 60k+ a week and doing double sessions on a couple of days). Part way through the cycle, my old back injury started twinging so I eased off and noticed how much quicker I was on the inter...

Re: Impact of Breathing Rythm?

I read a study a while back (can't remember where..) that looked into the breathing intervals etc.. Most peolpe thought that breathing out on the drive was better, but in actual fact the study found there was absolutely no difference whatever you did - just your own preference. For me I try to settl...

Re: Pete Plan Thread

Do any of you guys do extra sessions on top of the PP? or do you think it weakens the interval days if you do?
If you do, what do you do? Just more SS very low intensity??

Re: Thoughts to while away 60 min row

Not sure I can concentrate on a film or TV series when I'm rowing. I might try it though.. Action with an easy story line is probably the way to go.. :D

Re: Train hard and less or easier and more?

2) How does age effect the optimum sessions? Most of the studies are on younger athletes. i know that my body recovers slower now than it did when at a similar fitness in the past. Not sure whether the answer is lowering the proportion of HI sessions or lowering the number of sessions over all. Hi ...

If this does not feel horrible, you are not trying enough, from all sessions, this is the one I most often failed. A very very good 2k predictor.
I'm with you on that Henry - this is my least favourite session so far!!!

When doing longer, less intense sessions I like to throw on the wireless headphones and watch the tv
Yep definitely got to get some wireless headphones - listening to a fan whirl around for an hour can send you mental after a while.

Re: Good Method for Measuring Max HR?

I think there was a method in the old Concept 2 training guide, where you progressively stepped up in Watt increments.
I'll see if I can find it.

Thoughts to while away 60 min row

Apart from other stuff I did a 60 min VERY easy row today (just flushing blood around and building up some miles). To make the time seem easier, I decided to mentally split the row into 12 segments of 5 minutes, where each segment represented a month of the year. During that segment I thought about ...

Re: Pete Plan Thread

Thanks for the comments chaps. NB I just did the 4 x 1000m at 2k pace (I chose 1:50 based on the pyramid I did) Found this a really tough session (averaged 1:49.5), although I should have had a rest day yesterday, I didn't because I did my rest day on Saturday instead! Question is, do you guys find ...

A little corroboration. Henrick Stephansen sets the 2k record for lightweights going off at a 60 and settling down to row an average 40 spm for the race.
Damn!!! That is a quick pace!!!
And there's me wondeirng if I go out the blocks too quick

Re: Train hard and less or easier and more?

NB Despite what I started saying about not liking HIT, I'm going to try a plan of:

2 sessions HIT
1 session Tempo
2 sessions UT1
4 sessions UT2

This is pretty much what I did last week (although only 3 sessions UT2) but it felt pretty good.
