What's a reasonable cardio translation from rowing to swimming speeds? E.g. Should I equate a 5k erg time to a 1000m swim?

I have a 8yr old Concept2 rower with a PM3, and am wondering whether to upgrade it to a PM5 or whether I should be waiting for the next version to arrive. Anyone have any insights?
