Re: discouraged

Hi there Maybe shouldn't make my first post on these boards a negative one but here goes none the less; Short story long: 50 y.o. male in better shape than most, 6'1" 201.1 pounds. I have been a fairly consistent runner for the past 10 years or so and have finished a marathon, half marathon and num...

I wonder if you also feel no resistance until your arms because you are shooting your rear out ahead of the stroke- a mistake that took me a while to figure out when I first got my C2.

In my opininion, you should use the slides. I believe they significantly reduce the risk of injury to the lower back compared to the static erg. That said, I'll bet fewer people use them than do not use them. Either way, you are probably more prone to injury running, or with many other forms of exer...

BUY SLIDES!!! No joke, problem solved.

Without slides-rowing infinitely heavy boat, lots of strain on back.

With slides-rowing the weight of the C2, minimal strain on the back.

The difference is so noticeable you will be amazed!.

Of course it builds muscle, all you have to do is look at the legs of rowers to see that. And as far as your back is concerned, maintain form, and invest in a set of slides...problem solved. Slides changed it all for me when I first bought a C2. My lower back was beginning to stay sore throughout ea...

I think I can give you one example. I once asked about a compression I felt in my esophogus during the drive, and Xeno Mueller, who used to post here, told me to imagine a string holding my chin level, face forward, throughout the entire stroke. It worked!

I once posted a scientific study I found online, done I believe by students at the University of Michigan, that concluded an absolute advantage for height (longer levers) to performance on a rowing machine. A Concept 2 was used for the study. I will try to find and post again, but this was years ago.

I shouldn't have to say this, but this is a serious question because I would not think this. Do you really credit running 3 miles per day with giving your legs bulk? I would definitely say tone, but I would imagine you already had some genetic bulk to your legs without having to strength train them,...

To clarify my post a bit... I am all for a sort of crossfit approach to exercise, for general wellness as they put it in their journal. I was merely reponding to the way robin measured her loss of strength, as well as citing numerous studies I have seen over the years stating the best way to exercis...

I noticed the lift you mentioned as an example of your loss in strength was the bench press. As lifts go, the motion and muscles used would probably be opposite those used rowing. I wonder if you've lost as much strength in lifts that compliment rowing? If your goal is strength training to complimen...

I believe erging with slides and using good form will strengthen one's lower back, but not using slides has the potential to hurt it even with good form.

Great Workout

I just thought I would share a workout that really felt great. I based it on a workout I read about in a HIIT article, and tweaked in very slightly. I warmed up for 500 meters, then set the monitor for 6,000 meters. I then rowed the first 25 strokes (250 meters) of each 1,000 of the 6,000 at 250-300...

Thanks Xeno for your insights, I will pay close attention tonight and make sure I lead with my chin on the recovery.
