Re: Damper setting - I don't get it
OK, as thought experiment, imagine C2, instead of using a flywheel, decided to stick with the original chain and gears approach. And setting drag higher now means selecting higher gear. Assuming I'm just paddling along at constant speed, what is different versus the flywheel? What would difference ...

Drag = bike gears Nope, you don,t get it OK, as thought experiment, imagine C2, instead of using a flywheel, decided to stick with the original chain and gears approach. Re: Feeling hot hours after rowing
I think I have the same issue as you, although not as bad (i.e. it might only take me 2 hours to stop feeling too warm, although obviously depends on surroundings etc.). For me, I think the problem is my core temperature gets elevated during exercise (apparently there's quite substantial variation a...

Re: Optimum force curve
there is a great discussion on this topic about 4 threads down on this sub forum that has been going for a week or 2 Had seen that - actually trying to focus more on the facts than opinion (otherwise I reckon I'll never get anywhere!) catch and finish are relatively ineffective Not with modern blad...

Optimum force curve
Trying to work out what the optimum force curve is. In particular, very interested if anyone knows of any literature on the subject / pictures of high level rower's force curves. Way I see it there are 4 main variables to the force curve: 1) Stroke length. Self explanatory. 2) Peak force. Maximum fo...

Re: Need help configure Polar Flow to Concept2
Not familiar with this exact watch, but some general points that may be of some use: For inputting heart rate into watch - I assume the watch has asked you to input your age. If so, it will be calculating your max heart rate as 220 - age. This is fairly accurate for most people, so probably is OK. M...

Re: Leaning to Port
So, reading this, there are 3 issues right? 1) Bodyweight over to port side. 2) Right hand drops (at the catch I'm guessing, not for the whole recovery). 3) Not going straight. My guess is your stroke goes something like this - you finish the stroke, then start recovery, and as you move forwards, bo...

Re: Possible area of weakness?
I see, what intensity (in relation to max heart rate) should these longer rows be done at? Not easy, but certainly not max either. Your breathing should stay calm. Say 80% of your hf reserve. (Maxhf min rest hf) plus rest hf. Example rest 60, max 200, reserve is 140. Limit would be 60 plus 112 = 17...

Re: Batlogic erg adaptor
They're legal. Starting to get some adoption by actually rowers too (most notably Kiwi pair) I use a set - I fitted the shoes for my boat first, and noticed quite a nice difference (leg drive feels more connected at the front end), so used erg adapter too. I notice they seem to help with the age old...

Re: Balancing Force and Speed
Couple of points on this. 1) Just to clarify: The C2 does not directly measure force. It measures the speed of the flywheel, which it uses to infer force applied. This is fine 99% of the time, but what you're trying to do is analyse the exact point of the catch, which it won't work for, as not all f...

Re: Training for 2K @75%HR, use Low or High SPM?
1) What hjs said. High stroke rate low power will only mess up your technique (you either need to shorten up or rush the recovery to generate low power at high eate) 2) On whether 60' pieces are the best way to prepare - look into aerobic vs anaerobic training and peaking. Massively oversimplified v...

Re: OTW splits vs ERG splits
Yep, C2 erg is calibrated for a coxless 4, average crew weight 95kg. If your erg splits match your single splits, something is seriously wrong.

Re: Optimal Drive Length
No specific answer, but really easy to figure it out - Find your "front" position - i.e. sit at the catch, with shins vertical (if shins don't feel natural at vertical, raise / lower footplate until they do - if you're struggling to get that far forward, lower shoes, if you're getting past vertical,...

Re: Hang Off Your Skeleton?
Imagine you're on a pull up bar, and want to hold yourself off the ground as long as possible (maybe even try this if what I'm saying isn't 100% clear). Obviously, it makes a lot more sense to hang with your arms straight than bent - if you try hanging half way through a pull up, you'll notice that ...
