Re: Goal 5k sub 18:00. Pacing 30r20 and 4x1500m. Newbie

Some typical 5k interval sessions are 12x500, 10x600, 8x750 and 6x1k all with 1:00 rests. You will probably be a bit faster than projected 5k pace on the 500, 600 and 750's with the 6x1k being a pretty accurate predictor of 5k pace. Longer intervals like 5x1500 and 4x2000 with 5:00 rests are also pr...

Re: Training advice please -- 45 year old

Pete Plan may be a good place to start. Interval sessions are based on 2k/5k which you have established. Just be sure not to push too hard on the steady distance stuff. I followed it for quite a while and was very pleased with my progress.

Re: Ergdata IOS 7 iPhone 4

Similar situation here. 2 years worth of workouts. Fortunately I have screenshots of most and a training spreadsheet but given how easy it is to scroll through on my iPad I'd prefer not to go the delete/re-install route. Since it's working on my phone I'm going to hold off on doing anything and hope...

Re: Ergdata IOS 7 iPhone 4

Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to device or iOS or Ergdata. It's working for me on a 4s with iOS9 but not on an iPad. Same thing happens. Home C2 screen (upside down) displays for a few seconds and then disappears but is still running in background.

Re: ergdata crashes on iOS 9

Unfortunately I fell for the bait and updated both. iOS 9 on an iPad is not working with the latest Ergdata. Home Concept2 screen - upside down - is all I get. Really disappointed. Hope a fix is released soon.

Ergdata problems on iPad

I'm running 8.4.1 on both my iPhone 4 and iPad. No issues with Ergdata on the phone but the iPad frequently will not connect to the PM4 and often has a black horizontal bar across the screen. Anybody else experiencing similar problems?

Re: 30r20 - fixed pace or fixed HR?

In regards to the rate calculation I rely on stroke counter feature on Ergdata to ensure I'm really doing a 30r20, etc.

Re: Pete's Plan - Beginner - bass ackwards?

Pete Plan 500's are designed as a speed workout meant to get you used to a 2k race pace. Everybody has a "sweet spot" in terms of rate. I'm a 6'2" HWT and I do them at 32-34spm sometimes even a bit higher.

Re: Pete plan expectations

I started erging in September 2014 after not having done much vigorous exercise for several years. I went through the beginner plan and transitioned to the regular PP. I find the structure, schedule and workouts easy to follow. All of my times have improved significantly and continue to improve albe...

Re: 2K training question

Nice work! You're clearly in pretty good form already. For most people that split plus roughly 3 is pretty accurate.

Try the 4 x 1k with 5 minutes rest at about 1:38 pace. On paper it never looks that bad but it's pretty painful. Gives you a better since of the 2k "experience".

Re: 2K training question

A fair amount of mental and physical toughness doesn't hurt when going for a max effort 2k. But what I think is more important is having a realistic - based on interval training data -target. Without that you're flying (and possible dying) blind. Having the numbers to back me up always provides conf...

Re: 2K training question

In fact, I've never actually rowed a 2K for time as it sucks too much  Morgan I would highly recommend doing one very soon. It will give you a baseline for your training and get you accustomed to the 2k experience. If you've been doing intervals regularly you should be able to come u...

Re: 2K training question

Hi Morgan, I'm considering entering as well. Would be same age/weight category as you. I'm a FF from NY. Your 1k PB is very impressive. Fast 500 and 1k's don't always correlate in to equally fast 2k's as there is a much larger aerobic component to the 2k but if you can get your aerobic base anywhere...

Re: Curiosity about 2K training intervals

The simple fact is that flat out 2k's are - even if executed perfectly - incredibly tough. What the interval training does (or is designed to do) is give you the physical and mental capability and confidence to complete them at (or near) a given pace. That in no way means that they are going to feel...

The pacing for these is usually pretty close to 5k PB pace.
