I use a model D at the crossfit gym, and I have a model B at home. Except for my missing monitor, there is no real difference. It is more about the seat time, not necessarily the equipment. Get what you can afford.

I purchased a Model B of ebay back in February for $3.75, not a misprint. It was in a corporate gym who was upgrading equipment, and required pick up only in the middle of Georgia (it was about an hour and a half drive from Atlanta where I live). The erg is in decent shape, and is a whole lot better...
