Re: Murray's heart rate
The cardiac cycle is divided into two phases. The first is diastole. During this phase a few things happen. The atria (smaller chambers) contract and fill the relaxing ventricle (larger chamber) with blood. And blood flows through the coronary arteries supplying the myocardium (heart muscle) with ox...

Re: Interval Training : Any Real Value?
In my limited experience I have found that interval training is similar to the cycling that I do.

Re: Sweaty hands
I have tried bicycling cloves and they were not very comfortable. I also tried handlebar tape and that was worse. The adhesive from the tape got all over the bars, the tape wouldn't stay on and it was a real mess cleaning the bars. Now I just live with the sweaty hands.

Re: Herniated Disk - what i did wrong and what path to take
I would consult a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist who focuses on this type of injury. I'm an anesthesiologist. I work in a center that performs a lot of major spine surgery, ie. fusions and instrumentations. You do not want to progress to the point where this is your only option.

Re: Cycling and rowing equivalent distances
I am relatively new to rowing but I think it is a difficult comparing the cycling that I do with the rowing. I ride my bike over mixed terrain that requires increased effort when ascending hills with rest periods when descending. My effort when rowing is constant with no peaks and valleys. I don't h...

Re: rib
Ribs are very sensitive. I'm an anesthesiologist in a hospital that does a fair amount of lung surgery. A lot of these people experience pain along the incision (between the ribs) for a while after surgery. We do nerve blocks along with recommending nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents and ice. It ...

Quick Question
What do you use to pass time while rowing indoor? I have been listening to music, mostly jazz. It works well for me.

Re: Force Curve
Thanks to all who replied with helpful hints and links. I did a 5500 meter row this AM in 29.30, which is not bad for me. 2:40 for 500 meters. Getting better. Thanks again.

Re: Force Curve
Thanks to all who responded. I am not very computer savvy but will try to post videos. I am 59 and consider myself in pretty decent shape but by no means an elite athlete. I ride a bicycle between 3500 and 4000 miles yearly at 17 to 18 mph over hilly terrain. I still play full court basketball, so I...

Force Curve
My force curve is nothing like that shown on the Concept website. It is a flat long curve without a lot of height. I think my form is pretty good. Any thoughts?

Re: New Here
Thanks for the responses. I will check out the other forum. It looks like the cycling season here may be over unless we get an Indian Summer. I started on the rower a few weeks ago and have been doing it regularly. My plan is to row 8000 meters at least four times per week and as the cycling season ...
