Re: Pete Plan Thread
Commiserations. I've been there. Shingles is usually a consequence of fairly extreme or prolonged physical effort, when the body's defences are in a weakened state. I had an attack about 10 years ago, after plodding round a marathon in cold rain. A week or two after the race, I started to get itchy...

Re: Exercise and Shingles
I was one of the folks lucky enough to get it on my face, left eye going up over the scalp and onto the ear. Hoping I got treatment early enough to prevent any lasting damage to my eyesight or hearing, but I'll feel much more confident they're intact once I'm no longer symptomatic.

Re: Exercise and Shingles
Seems that shingles is affecting younger people more often. https://healthbeat.spectrumhealth.org/s ... er-adults/ I'm an older adult who has not contracted HZ (nor have I had the shingles vaccine), but my 24-year old niece did. Luckily she had a mild case. That's a really interesting article, I wa...

Exercise and Shingles
Over the past 2+ months I've been working out more than I have in the past two years, and I've lost over 25 lbs making steady progress. Unfortunately, about a week ago I came down with Shingles. From everything I'm reading, Shingles generally hits people over 50 (I'm 30) and can be brought on by a w...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
Great work on the 1k Robert! I share your pleasant surprise at being able to stick to the BPP much more than I would any kind of running plan. I have gone through phases where I want to run more frequently, but it's never something I've been able to follow through with for more than a week or so. My...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
Henry - Makes complete sense. My 500m "PBs" are all part of intervals I've been doing via the BPP so fatigue is a big factor. I haven't tried a pure PB at any distance yet, the 1k in March will be my first.

Re: Pete Plan Thread
Marius - Fourth in group in your first few months of Ski Erg is unbelievable, not surprising you've got blisters! If that guy from Tonga made the Olympics with only 12 weeks on skis and a ton of conditioning may be worth a thought, 2022 is a lot of meters to practice on the ski erg.... :D anyone ent...

Re: Drag factor / watts
Wouldn't that be the opposite? Since DF is the fly wheel losing speed, the more gunk you've got around the fly wheel the faster it would lose speed - right?Huh, that's strange. Usually you'd expect the opposite i.e. new machines have higher drag factors at a given setting.

Re: Pete Plan Thread
All this talk of drag factor inspired me to increase from my usual 120 to what my PM tells me was a DF of 129 for BPP 10.5 - 7 x 500m 2R. I did get my best times to date on this session, but at my developing level of fitness it's tough to say whether that's due to the setting change or the result of...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
2K is nothing compared to the pain of a 5K or 10K all out   None are fun but all work different things. I'm building up for the longer distances now. 2K intervals are hard, no doubt. They are torturous. I'm sure! At this point in my training it's hard to imagine completing a 10k at a TT ...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
Yesterday was BPP 10.2, my first crack at 3 x 2k 4R since January 28th. My previous best on this was around a 2:01 pace, 8:04, and the direction was to beat that by a second on the first two intervals and then go for an even faster time on the final rep. Couple things I really learned on this one. 1...
