I second calm waters. Great instruction for any skill level, range of boats from tubs to racing shells. Also, the B&B is great and the food is incredible.

Re: Does your job impact your training?
Yeah quite a bit, particularly because I travel for work as well. I'm not sure what camp I'm in when it comes to work, I don't have any hobbies I love so much that I feel like I'm missing out. It would be great to erg more, get out on the water more, but it would just be more of what I already enjoy...

Re: Comparing rankings on Concept2 to general fitness
I think erging makes you fit for erging, and that is not directly transferable to general fitness. We do the same thing day in and day out, all year round. If you on the other hand combine the erging with lifting, and have a double bodyweight squat, and 2.5 bodyweight deadlift, and throw in some gy...

Re: Comparing rankings on Concept2 to general fitness
Answer this question, would you rather have a fitness test against the psychos that rank here (I mean that in a good way), or against the pool of everyone else who doesn't? It's a no-brainer.

1.92 Million @ 1:58.75/500m spm likely 26-27.
This upcoming season I'll be over 2:00/500m. I recently backed off a bit and got past the mental hurdle of rowing at less than 2:00/500m.

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below
It's equally impressive how much brute force C2's can withstand. On one of them pull cord rowers i can just see it now... the cord snapping or eventually ripping completely away from unit  That happened to me. Handle broke where it connects. There is a piece that broke off first, which also br...
Re: Pain
It's an interesting topic for me. My max effort 2K was at the Atlanta erg sprints. Some said the venue is dry and it certainly seemed like it to me. My pain was almost entirely in my lungs. I'm not sure what that means but I came on here and posted about it. I was familiar with the rower's "cough" a...

Re: another new guy who loves the Erg!
Keep at the erg and see what happens with the smoking. One thing to think about on the smoking front is that you really don't like smoking, nobody does, your brain just tells itself you like smoking because it wants nicotine. Nicotine gum might help in conjunction with the erg because the incentive ...

Re: Warm ups. What exactly are they?
Hi Edward, going into a steady row yes it's low intensity, but if anyone does endurance intervals and doesn't do a warm up is mad, they are high intensity sessions (AT) and not fair on your body to just go for it. Color me mad. I'm up to about 11 million meters at sub 2:00/500m and never warm up. M...
Re: New Here
I'd suggest trying to slow down stroke rate but stay with what's comfortable. 22-24 is fairly low for you IMO. Low rate is great if you have good form and feel good but I think to the extent it doesn't feel natural you could do more harm than good if you're trying to improve on pace/500m. My advice ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Atlanta Erg Sprints: usual anxiety. Was on or a hair faster than my plan until 400 to go. Saw the pace go slower and the rate go higher at about 200 to go which was do or die time. Managed to hang onto 7:01.7. Lost a bit at the end. Better than last year which is just fine with me. Gives me a reaso...

Re: 30' row for distance
I know I'll probably get chastised for this but one thought is that for your size your stroke rate might be kind of low. I could see even with decent form you may be in the situation of losing a lot of momentum on the flywheel with each pull. Maybe kicking up the SPM a bit and making each stroke les...

Re: Rowing SPM - Cardio Vs. Power
I am about 45 days into owning my Concept2 Model D PM5, and I am learning as I go here. With virtually no experience rowing before, I bought this for my cardio equipment in a home gym I am slowly building (much cheaper than a quality treadmill, and less maintenance issues). The idea being this woul...

Re: Handle Down or ...
I only HD'd once that I can remember and only missed targets a handful of times. The former was due to intense cramps. I view my rows as being in the boat, it's easier for me on the mental aspect. Jim asks, where is the rule you finish the row. My answer is, it's in my rulebook. One of the only rule...

Very impressive, toyed with trying that same goal but all of the horror stories about the difference between HM and FM made me reconsider. Congrats!bisqeet wrote:one of my seasons targets achieved (and imo the hardest to attain)
