Widen knees to breathe easier?

Ok, so I'm not huge, but my 200lbs is big enough that I have a slightly larger belly that I would prefer and it definitely seems to hinder my breathing when crammed into my knees. I tend to migrate towards a wider knee position at the catch sometimes because it allows me to keep my breathing with de...

Re: Timing/sequence of multiple races

I like that plan, thanks! I think it makes sense to keep the 500 last because that's a record I think I can break on any given day I happen to be feeling pumped up. Using the adreneline of competition primarly for the 2k and distance event seems like the best choice since I'm less likely to do as go...

Re: Improving my 1000m time

Make sure your technique is where it needs to be. I'm no expert by any means, but by reading and watching technique videos over the last couple of months, I've brought my SPM's down by 5 or 6 and my average times are 5-10% better at all distances without much change in fitness.

Timing/sequence of multiple races

So I was originally planning to enter 3 events at the Denver Indoor Championships, the 500m, 2000m and one longer event, probably the 60 minute race (which is held the day before the sprint events). I noticed there is another set of indoor races the week prior so now I'm leaning towards spliting up ...

Heartrate monitoring options

For those who use it, how well does a Garmin heartrate strap work with the PM4? I was thinking of going that route or just getting an entirely separate heartrate watch unit. My concern was the PM4 might not get consistent reception due to the varying distance while rowing.

Loud pop on hard effort

I was testing some starting techniques today by doing 100 meter repeats. During one of them, there was a loud 'pop' at which point the display stopped registering that I was still rowing. Once I went back to the main screen and started the intervals over, it worked just fine, but I'm wondering what ...

Re: Random questions

For what it is worth, I never drink in HM, have only done so once in ~7-8 FM's and drink only once (possibly twice) in 100k efforts. .... I think you typo'd and added an extra 0 to that distance! Really only twice in 100k?? I could see doing up to a HM without water, mostly the drinking is probably...

Re: Random questions

I'd love to hear more opinions on the Camelbak. My experience with one in other sports would lead me to think the pros would easily outway the cons, especially at half or full marathon distance. Without one, I can't help but think my performance would suffer two-fold, first from attempting to reduce...

Re: Random questions

Thanks.

My #2 question may not have been clear. I just meant that during my 10k attempt, I also had a PR for my 5k and 30 minute within the same effort. I'm sure this won't continue to happen for long as I make more focused attempts, but until then, it's not rare that this happens.

First - One of the rowers I have access to (this one is in a gym) can only reach a max drag factor of 99 when on setting 10. What might cause this? I know dirt and dust would affect it, but I guess I was assuming the drag factor would get higher, or do I have that backwards? Also, I live at altitude...

Re: Damper settings

Thanks, that helps and is part of the equation I was missing.

So would there be an approximate drag range that is common for the 500m in general or maybe by predicted times?

Damper settings

Hello, I've rowed indoors on and off for several years, but only recently discovered that others actually compete at this so I'm excited to try out the Denver Indoor Championships. Unfortunately, I only have a few weeks to prepare, so I'm cramming as best as I can in my limited time to figure out wh...

For the winner of the team challenge, will the prize be a C2 rower again this year?
