Re: Fitness Tests
I keep time trials in my regular workout rotation. I know most people don't, but I feel like they're definitely effective physical workouts, and irreplaceably effective mental workouts. I've been making a point of doing 2K, 30 minute, and 60 minute TT's within the first week of each month. Since jus...

Re: CO2 blood levels
Secondly, all this stuff about 'UT2 burns fat' etc may well be right, but afterwards everything equilibrates such that within 24 hours (or less, probably) muscle and liver glycogen and blood sugars will be back to baseline levels, and any excess calories burned during exercise over those consumed i...

Re: CO2 blood levels
I remain very interested in what happens to our body and brain when we run out of glycogen/carbs during prolonged exercise or during periods of food shortage. There are times when I'm carb depleted and seem to do OK and others when I'm depleted and just start to sweat and hate life almost immediate...

Re: CO2 blood levels
do we reach a stage with endurance exercise where we are actually 'fat burning' like the media tends to reference? If so, is there a transition point in endurance exercise where we begin to produce less CO2 and our respiration becomes more efficient? Yes...ish, but not from diet, and this might be ...

Re: Sore finger tendons
I've had a similar-sounding finger injury from rock climbing. As far as I could guess from reading up I think it was an injury to an annular or cruciate pulley ligament (but I didn't feel like shelling out thousands of bucks into the US health system to find out for sure). In my case contact/pressur...

Re: Force graph -- help with technique?
A couple of things to try - during the leg drive make sure your body is tense enough that for every inch the seat moves, the handle moves an inch as well. I'd guess you're shooting the slide. If it still looks wonky (2 peaks) after that, start the movement of your upper body a little earlier. When I...

Re: Strange symbol on PM4, and ErgData not logging
Would the ANT symbol indicate connection to my heart rate strap, to ErgData through the cable, or something else? Perhaps the PM4 is connected to something that it believes is logging the workout. To the heart rate strap. ANT+ devices specifically identify themselves, and as far as I can tell from ...

Re: Strange symbol on PM4, and ErgData not logging
It's the ANT+ logo (wireless tech for exercise stuff, including the heart rate monitor strap for the C2). The icon was added in one of the firmware updates. I don't use ErgData so I can't help you with that, but I thought I'd take the easy part of the question.

Re: Is a Concept 2 "good enough" ??
I would say, speak for yourself, its always your own motivation thst makes you train or not. If you need a drill sergeant to get you going its your own motivation that is lacking. Fully agree. I was noting that my personal motivation is higher when I'm lifting, and it's flaky when I'm not. The OP d...

Re: Is a Concept 2 "good enough" ??
I dumped my gym membership a couple of years ago and ordered a model D because that was the single piece of equipment the gym had that stood out as more useful and effective than everything else there. I have mixed feelings on that decision, because I don't have weights at home (space issues). Body ...

Re: Utilize Rowing for 100 Mile Bike Ride
Steve140: be aware that the C2 will contribute to your CV readiness, but that's about it. If you don't put in the miles on your bike, expect a whole lot of soreness from the saddle and upper body fatigue from holding a riding position for hours. Pushups, planks, and stretches to ensure lower back & ...

Re: happy but no weight loss
If your diet hasn't changed, and your exercise hasn't changed, and you lost weight down to a certain number and then stopped losing, then you have found your equilibrium weight for that amount of input vs output. ie, your base metabolism from body mass and type plus your activities are burning prett...

Re: Jensens model help
Keeping in mind that predicting one piece's pace from another's is very contentious, and this is going to be kind of long and extremely opinionated... My own model is based off of the concept of an exponential decay in critical output power over time (instead of saying there is a fixed relationship ...

Re: Is 500m essentially irrelevant for 2K on up?
http://home.trainingpeaks.com/articles/cycling/power-training-levels,-by-andrew-coggan.aspx Scroll down to table 2. A 500m would be zone 6, a 1k or 2k would be zone 5 (AN vs AT). This table shows what the OP describes: little direct overlap. The indirect effects can still be beneficial though. Occas...
