Training without an erg.
Hey all. I'm 18, male, about 68-70kg, 176cm tall. 2000m PB 7:03.8 (not at peak fitness) 5000m PB 18:49 It's been about 3 months since the end of last season (and about 3 months to go till the start of next season) and I'm currently playing field hockey over the winter, though I feel I've lost a fair...

Re: Steady state and running
Thanks for the hasty replies, though I am still wondering if 90 minutes today is a good amount to be doing, and if so how often I should take rest days, and if not what should I do instead?

Steady state and running
Hey all, the other day I did 2x45 minute pieces at a relaxed steady state pace, it felt like I was working reasonably hard, I was pulling the same splits as usual without any hassle, however, my heart rate was quite low (about 140 avg across both pieces while it's usually about 152). Would my low he...

How long until I get back to my PB?
Hey all, at the end of the last rowing season I pulled a 7:03.8 PB on the erg at 62Kg/137lbs and 16 years old. I'm now about 66Kg, 17 years old and I have been playing field hockey over the winter. The practices for hockey (3x a week) aren't very physically demanding and we only play games once a we...

Re: Help me break 6:45 within half a year.
4. 1 x 5K at 6-8 secs above race pace. I am a bit skeptical as to whether or not I could manage 5k at a 1:54 pace, but i suppose if i really pushed myself..? I am also not sure that I could manage 30 mins at a 1:56. Is this an indication my endurance needs work? does your boarding school have a gym...

Re: Help me break 6:45 within half a year.
Cyclingman, could you please give some examples of the workouts you did?
I think it would be a good idea for me to mix endurance training with shorter intervals. Does anyone else agree?
I think I will also do strength training with weights.

Re: Extra Practice
Hardest workout I've ever done on the erg is 8x2m30s pieces with rest time=work time. The pieces are done at slightly above 2k pace. Speaking strictly in terms of pain, I never want to do these again, whereas I would happily do tabata intervals again.

Help me break 6:45 within half a year.
Hey everyone. My current 2k time is 7:03.9 (rate 35 avg), and I weigh 63Kg's, I'm 16 years old and I'm not sure exactly how tall I am but it's somewhere short of 6 foot. Next season I'm hoping to get a lightweight four together, and for that I'm hoping to have my 2k time sub-6:45 by the start of the...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
At 61.75Kg I got 7:03.9 for 2000m. 11 seconds off my last PB of 7:14.9. Was hoping for a sub 7:00 but I guess I'm still happy with what I got.

How to increase leg power/stroke power index
Hey everyone, recently on the erg I tried to break 7 min for 2k. I rowed the piece at rate 35 average and came through the 1000m mark feeling stronger than I normally do, I had great confidence at the 1000m mark that I could keep the pace and I would do it. However, coming into the last 500m, my leg...

Ultimate 2k erg test preparation
Hey all, not really for competition but I figured this was the closest forum. I was wondering what is the best way to ensure you can perform at your peak for a 2km test? Things I need to know are how long before to warm up, how long to warm up for, what to eat/not eat, what to drink, how long to eat...

Re: Breaks & Recovery
Yes, UT2 sessions are generally designed to be continuous but if you feel you have the need to get off the erg and have a quick break due to a sore butt or whatever then that is generally not a problem so long as the break is not too long, a quick walk around, stretch, and drink of water is all that...

Well I wouldn't say I'm very unfit, but I'm nowhere near as fit as I could be..
One guy in my crew, over about 9 weeks at 70kg dropped his 2k from 7:20 to about 6:48..

Which of the following workouts is more beneficial to my 2k?
Hey all. We are halfway through the rowing season and I have some holiday training to do. My current erg time is 7:17.4 (I weigh about 62Kg - 4.3 watts per kg) and I hope to get that down to about 7:00 flat (about 4.8 watts per Kg) within a few weeks (is this a realistic goal? (training 6 days a wee...

Re: Training twice a day?
Thanks very much for your input guys, I think I will try to do the erg each day as required, and for the second sessions I will mix it up between ergs and weights and cross training depending on how I feel.
And also, there is still the question of recovery, advice needed!
