Full chain/shockcord maintenance -- parts list?
I have a late 2005 model D that is hitting 10 million meters, and: - Definitely needs a new shock cord - Could use a new chain/sprockets - Could probably use new rollers for the seat I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVn3VgKatXM Which seems to cover the first two items above. But I d...

MPx, yours was the correct answer. I got an email reply as well with the same advice.

ErgData no longer records workouts in the Fitness app on iOS
I was super-excited when I noticed ErgData on iOS was able to record workouts by itself and I no longer had to start a rowing workout on my Apple Watch myself whenever I row and then have two workouts recorded in Fitness. It appears that last worked on February 12. Since then I do the same thing as ...

Re: Model D chain is noisy, especially during recovery
Thanks for the suggestions. I doubt the chain has jumped off anything -- it's not *that* loud. I'm definitely thinking about replacing the chain/hardware. I'm also realizing how much the chain noise can be dampened by wrapping the body of the chain housing in a blanket.

Model D chain is noisy, especially during recovery
I have a circa-2005 model D, all original equipment. Everything works fine -- even the shock cord, amazing after almost 20 years! But the chain/rollers are loud -- much louder than the fan. Especially the chain going back into the rower during recovery is loud. I honestly don't know if it's always b...

Re: Calluses/Blisters: one thing that worked for me
For me the answer is ankle socks. I throw one of those on each handle, and I barely get calluses, and never blisters. This is with near-daily rowing (2 million meters goal this season).

Re: Longest Continual Row Record attempt
I use a folded up hand towel for seat padding on long rows. It works just in general (for me, everyone is different). Also: I find it useful because I can fold it over on one side to change the balance of pressure between my two sit bones. Sometimes one or the other gets sore and it’s better to put ...

Re: Apple Watch and heart rate
I had the same issue with my original Apple Watch maybe 6 years ago. It’s been better recently, but I don’t have a current model; mine is an SE. when it was a thing I would start my workout a minute before rowing to let it get its bearings.

Re: rowing to lower A1c
My suggestion would be: 1. Make a list of defined workouts, with graded difficulty levels. For example, for 30 minute rows I have: 30 minutes Very Easy: 6.1K 110 watts Easy: 6.25K 118 Watts 2:23.5 Medium: 6500 132 Watts 2:18.4 Medium 2: 6667 143 watts 2:15 Hard: ~6800 150 Watts ~2:12 Harder: 7K 166 ...

Resuscitating a Model C?
I'm apartment-hunting. As always, I check the gym (if the building has one) for rowers. When they do have one (rare) it's often not a Concept 2. Boo! But I saw an apartment I like, with a gym, with a Concept 2. Yay! But it's a beat-up Model C. Like, the fan housing doesn't look fully bolted together...

Rowing. There is no substitute.
(with apologies to Porsche) Two years ago I was rowing every day. I had a set of standard workouts I did pretty randomly, from an easy 5K, to a medium 10K, to a hard 30 minute row. I tracked my average and max heart rate when doing those rows. During that time I ran a half marathon, a 10K, and a 5K....

Re: Low heart rate max?
Max heart rate varies by individual. Mine is high for my age, but based on the test parameters you mention, you are substantially faster than I am. Between the two, I'd take your heart rate and performance.

Losing form in ten weeks: a cautionary tale
Three months ago I was rowing daily and looking good to make my year-end goals. I benchmark with three workouts: "easy" is 5000m in 24 minutes; "medium" is 10k in 45 minutes; "hard" is 7000m in 30 minutes. Then I went on a trip where no rowing machine was available. I did multiple forms of workout, ...

Re: Finding an erg in Lisbon?
There are several rowing clubs in Lisbon. I would recommend checking out one of those unless you can find a crossfit gym or something. Most clubs would be happy to let you use the equipment as long as you demonstrate a competence on is and (most likely) pay to use it. http://www.rowinglinks.com/eur...

Re: Arms feel like doing more than my legs
I had this same issue for a long time. What fixed it for me was displaying the force curve while rowing. If you press the second button on the right during a workout, the force curve will be displayed. If your stroke is bad, it will almost certainly be visible in your force curve. It's supposed to l...
