Re: Improving But Needing a Form Check!
Also I like to sit a bit further forward on the seat, I think it helps my hinging motion. Thank you for all of your comments but especially this tip! This combined with dropping the foot plates has me feeling like I'm sitting up straighter and able to swing more at the hips instead of curving the b...

Re: Improving But Needing a Form Check!
I dropped the foot plates down to their lowest setting, that has the strap going across the wide part of my foot. It also really got my knees out of chest and it seems like I can lean forward a lot more now. I moved to sitting more forward on the seat as well and that seems to help keep my back stra...

Re: Improving But Needing a Form Check!
I tried rowing today and raising the foot plates, this did achieve the result of me not sliding forward as far but I think it resulted in me losing a lot of power and I need to go the other way. I am 6'4" with size US 13 running shoes, I normally row with the pegs in the second set of holes, but tri...

Re: Improving But Needing a Form Check!
Nice improvements. Two things clearly show. Knees travel to far, you almost reach your toes... rock over a bit more, set the feet a bit higher. Two, a soft finish of the stroke, your feet come from the foodrest. You should end your stroke more firm, pulling the energy thats still in your body into ...

Improving But Needing a Form Check!
Around a month ago I posted a thread here (https://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=189121) about picking up rowing again after a long layoff and got a ton of great advice. After that I started doing 10k a day rows at 145bpm heart rate for steady state and every few days I'll do a half hour row a...

Re: New To Rowing (Again) - Pushing Heart Rate Too Hard?
Just wanted to bump this and thank everyone for the advice they gave me again! It's been making a real difference for me, it's led to a much more comfortable rowing experience and good improvements.

It's still slow but I'm getting there!

Re: New To Rowing (Again) - Pushing Heart Rate Too Hard?
Thanks to everyone who has replied, it's clear I have a lot to learn on all of this yet. A couple people noted to make sure I wasn't using a watch for my HR monitoring and just want to confirm that I'm using a Polar chest strap with the sensor connected to my PM3 for all my heart rate data. I did a ...

Re: New To Rowing (Again) - Pushing Heart Rate Too Hard?
Thats a pretty nasty high HR for that pace. Yah :( That's what working a desk job and not really doing any exercise for a half decade or so gets me I guess. Hopefully I can get that changed soon. I would cap it at a pace that gives you a max hr of about 145 or 150 for a number of weeks. This is goi...

Re: New To Rowing (Again) - Pushing Heart Rate Too Hard?
Thanks for the advice so far. :) You have to be patient and don't let your ego dictate your decisions. You will be slower to start with, that is normal but you will also speed up relatively quickly, with the same HR, if you pace it slowly enough to start with. I think that's exactly it, I remember h...

New To Rowing (Again) - Pushing Heart Rate Too Hard?
I'm about to reach 1.2m meters rowed on my rower, most of this was done back in 2014 when I was rowing a lot before a chest infection knocked me off the rower and I never picked it back up until 10 days ago. For the last 10 days I've been doing 30 minute straight rows, compared to my previous rowing...

Re: Help With Technique
I did a 10k row today to assess my chances of completing the half marathon challenge in the next few weeks and my chances don't look good, but I'll keep trying. I focused on lengthening my stroke and tried to focus on the handle/body lean/slide forward sequence as well. Lengthening the stroke really...

Re: Help With Technique
At the moment your knees are rising too soon - infact they start to come up at the same time as your hands push away. Consequently, your hands have to rise up over the knees. Someone mentioned this earlier too and I didn't realize I was doing it until I went back and watched the video. When I first...

Re: Help With Technique
Twitch, I don't see a response to my comments about the elevations of various cities in Canada. You simply said the Canadian prairies. I am not sure just how much of the country is considered to be the prairies, but Calgary is described as a prairie city. Wikipedia shows it at over 3400 feet - not ...

Re: Help With Technique
Thanks guys, it seems like the length of the stroke is the biggest problem I have right now so that's what I'll focus on. I was worried that if I leaned too far forward I would lose efficiency so I was always careful not too, but now after the seeing the video of myself rowing it's clear I need to b...

Re: Help With Technique
. Is there any airflow obstruction there? That could cause a low DF. Bob S. Not really, there is a loveseat there but not so close that I'd think it would stop airflow. I dragged it out a bit so it was even more in the clear and the drag factor at 5 stayed at 116. At a the lowest setting the drag f...
