Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Wow, wonderful! Congratulation! I am glad to see that at least some people in this thread are making it below Sub7! As we are moving to a lock-down again in Germany and I am not commuting by bike for 40k everyday anymore, I have more time to erg and will give it also a try in a month or so. Made it!...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

I am still on the challenge but had to go slower for the past days (well, starting beginning of September), as I seem to have caught something. Was nothing big but in these days you don't to risk it... I just noticed that had a lot less endurance than before which was also reflected by the heart rat...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Wow, that is an intense plan! Is it all erg or do you do the longer pieces on the water? For me, more than 10k on the erg is the maximum. Then I get bored. Also, I feel that I have tortured the neighbors enough :D However, doing a half marathon is also on the list of things I want to get done this y...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

I am by far not a training expert. For me, I have found that doing pieces on the erg with higher HR beyond UT1 at as well as over the threshold helps me to gain fitness. I do a lot of the UT1 stuff when biking and kayaking - not by choice but because of the thick traffic and a low hull speed of my s...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

After having mastered the Dog Days Challenge (including my kakaying meters I did 200k in August), I feel really fit now. It is quite amazing what a difference 1 month of dedicated training makes! I did a 1k row today and manage to do it 3:24.6 min with a 1:42.3 pace. I started too fast but managed t...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Puh, was rowing 2k for warming up today and was surprised to see that I was able to go from completely cold to 7:16.3! That gives me hope that the Sub7 2k isn't that far away. I am still lacking in endurance but I am improving...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Hasn't been the greatest week for me concerning the target at hand. I managed to the 30k for the dog day's challenge but it was too hot for me to go deep into the the anaerobic zone. We had around a 34 degrees Celsius here (93 Fahrenheit) which I am not that used to. Northern Germany is mostly wet a...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Congrats, Mromero! That was quick, but you said that you were at weeks before!

I imagine that is must have been hard on the last meters... Thanks for sharing that inspiring news!

I think I better wait until I feel comfortable in the anaerobic zone again.

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Hi Guy,
Thanks a lot for the targets. Seems like, I am bit more off than I thought...

In 2012 I have pursued the same goal and there was this great bloke who posted a vid of him breaking this sound barrier. He basically went for the 1.000 m and then went all out and somehow survived.

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

First week of September would be perfect. Training goes well: I did 2k with a 1:55 pace, as a warm-up and then 8 x 500 m and 1k for "cool-down" (as if in this weather...). The first 4 of these I wanted to do with a 1:45 pace which was possible. The other 4 with 1:50 with 2 min rest in between. I am ...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Hi Gisborne, nice to hear from you! I kind of planned to take a shot at the Sub7 2K after the Dog Day Challenge which I decided to as a training. I am doing a lot of rowing session the last weeks roughly following the Pete plan which has worked wonders for me before. I reckon, that a full month of f...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Have been doing 750m intervals today. Went great! Was able to hold the 1:45 pace for two intervals. I did notice, however, that my ability to linger in the anaerobic zones has suffered while biking and paddling. Incidentally, the August is the dog day's challenge. This seems to be a great month for ...

Re: Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Great to hear that some of you want to join! Please post your progress! My 1k time is in fact older than the 2k time. As a matter of fact, all the times are pretty old except the 10k time. I have been doing a lot of interval training on the erg, though, and I am feeling quite fit for trying the Sub7...

Wanting to go Sub7 2K for the first time - anybody onboard?

Hi there, I have been rowing with the Concept2 since 2012 now. In the first year very intensely but then I got into paddling and biking again and have been rowing less now. Due to COVID19 by 40k/d bike commute has been cancelled and so I am rowing more again and would like to hit that sound barrier....

Re: Out of Shape

Hi drjay9051, way to go! I managed to drop 25 kg by rowing and found it a great way to loose weight. It is easy on the joints. Personally, I just followed the general advice of doing 3 session a week of 40' of light intensity rowing with an heart rate between 65-70% of my heart rate maximum. It was ...
