Re: Garmin HRM not pairing with PM5
So, upgraded the Firmware, dropped new batteries into the PM5 and changed the battery in the transmitter. It turned out to be the firmware upgrade that did the trick. The PM5 batteries tested at 1.27-9 each, so they were due. Did the battery for good measure since I had some extra 2032's and the ori...

Re: Garmin HRM not pairing with PM5
Hi Jaap; Thx for the advice. I gave it a shot with the watch completely out of the picture and still the problem persists. I turned the watch off completely and still the problem persists. Same with both the watch and the phone completely off. Next, I will try replacing the battery in the transmitte...

Garmin HRM not pairing with PM5
I am having difficulty with my Garmin HRM connecting to my PM5. It is a relatively recent problem, perhaps one that showed up when I got a new Garmin watch ( Fenix 6 ). Note, I did not replace the HRM strap or transmitter. I have confirmed that the strap works though as it pairs nicely with my new w...

Re: Indoor rowing competitions: 'heavy-shell' vs 'light-shell' format
I love the idea. A handicapping scheme makes a great deal of sense since fundamentally the erg is a work meter and it should seem obvious that more massive people can do more work than less massive people. It seems like a very simple correction to have a weight correction. I always thought that havi...

Re: rowing noob just did his second 2k
Curious about your running performances. What events do you run and what times for these have you run lately. Well into the 6:30's for 2K is quite impressive, especially for someone who is 172#, essentially a lightweight.

Re: 1 month fast? thoughts and advice needed
1 month fast where all you consume is water is insane... Unless you are some sort of political prisoner trying to make a point it makes no sense at all. Sure, it probably won't kill you but its hard to believe that it would be healthy. It could also make it much harder to keep and maintain a healthy...

Re: Making a Run at being a lightweight
Thanks for the feedback. I will take care of the shoulder... The issue is that the PT is outrageously boring and progress seems to be almost imperceptible. Rowing and running are nice diversions in that neither seem to bother the injured shoulder and offer the opportunity to see measurable progress....

Making a Run at being a lightweight
First off, not sure if this is a training or health and fitness question. But.. Here goes. I am 6'2", 54 and now at 175# or so and am thinking it would be interesting to get down to under 165 and compete as a lightweight master. Before the injury I was at 180-85# and in decent all around shape for a...

Re: Please recommend a “shoulder health” workout
If you are looking for workout Ideas I like this little pamphlet. It seems to hit all the major aspects of shoulder health; strength, flexibility, endurance, stability and proprioception. http://orthoinfo.org/PDFs/Rehab_Shoulder_5.pdf I had shoulder surgery 13 weeks ago and my PT uses it as a show a...

Re: Advice for Returning from Shoulder Injury
Thank you all for the advice. Interesting to see a mention Scapular Dyskinesis. In addition to regaining elevation range of motion, addressing / reversing this has been the focus of much of my PT to date. I started to develop one of the signs, shoulder droop and the PT has given me a host of exercis...

Re: Advice for Returning from Shoulder Injury
I am now 10+ weeks post surgery, 16+ weeks post injury. Surgeon opened up my shoulder and dropped in 6 anchors to fix the suprapinatus, subscapularis and do a tenodenisis on the biceps. There has been a massive amount of atrophy. My shoulders and back look like they belong to an undernourished and o...

Re: Turf toe or Gout?
A simple blood test should tell you if its gout or not. Paid does sound enough like gout to get the blood test. Treatment for gout is straightforward; take meds and or modify you diet. If it is gout, the pain you are feeling is you feeling the joint damage, so get it looked after.

Re: Beat Up Runner Update
So I first posted in March about trying to switch from running to rowing. Here's an update for anyone who is considering getting a C2: I have had the rower for almost two months and so far I love it. Do not miss running or the limping that came with it. (Recap: Just turned 53, 6', just under 150lb....

Re: Ever got into a state of "flow" with rowing/erging?
I have not gotten there while on an erg. Been there plenty while running, riding a bike and skiing. In my case it has less to do with the activity and more to do with my not having spent as much time on the erg. Some day, I will "be the arrow" on an erg but I'm not there yet. https://www.youtube.com...
