Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Easy HM @ 87min, pace 2:01-2:06, df 121, spm 24. Average HR 151 (78% of HRmax).

Trying to hone in on a comfortable and economical UT1. Still needs some tweaking, but I'm getting there.

Re: summer workout

SwedeRow, That's a very interesting quote! Thanks for posting it. Physiologist/rower Stephen Seiler posts about rowing specific strength training here: http://web.archive.org/web/20071019040515/http://home.hia.no/~stephens/rowstre.htm He feels that it does help, however he doesn't have any studies ...

Re: summer workout

[...]Strength training can also be done OTE/OTW (high-resistance low-spm erging/rowing with bungees). This would theoretically transfer over better to actual rowing.[...] This is probably not true. Atleast that's what I've gathered from reading up on the matter, though mostly from biking literature...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I had a new go at the 2k today and got 6:40.1 (DF 127 SPM 29) 7.1s better than 12 days ago, but it wasn't pretty. This time I actually prepared for the test with proper sessions leading up til today, nutrition, warm-up and death metal in the stereo. I even set out to break 6:40, maintaining 1:39-ish...

Re: Ranger's training thread

Fascinating stuff! I'll be sure to follow this thread, though I guess it's impossible not to. So Ranger, let's for the sake of argument say you indeed have lost speed on the 2k, why not change focus and aim for a longer distance, perhaps more suitable for your age. I'm thinking that anaerobic capaci...

Re: summer workout

I dont know if it's customary to do cardiowork and weight lifting in the same session in rowing, but usually it's not optimal. Why not do a 2-split, with the weight sessions occuring as far apart from the erg-work as possible during the day. Preferably with the session involving deadlift, squat and ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I tried out the 500m today for the first time, and landed a 1:27.1. The problem though is that 1:27 also seems to be my LP. This gives me mixed feelings, I'm happy about being able to hold my LP through all of the 500, but at the same time I feel restricted by it. I'm guessing I need to hit the wei...

Re: timeframe for improvement?

I started rowing about 2 months ago, almost exclusevily OTW, but I've done pieces on the erg from time to time when the weather's been awful. The day I signed up for the beginners course i set a time of 8:00 on the 2k, with what i assume lousy technique, last week i did a semi-serious test and the t...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I've been rowing for about 2 months now, exclusively on water, why row inside when you can enjoy the weather? but today I did my first test on the 2k, I figured it cant hurt to have a reference point to measure progress. The timer stopped at 6:47.2 and I guess I should be happy with that. The menta...
