Re: Ranger's training thread
I'll see if I can post some video doing 1:49 @ 33 spm (8 SPI) OTW in my Fluid so you can see what you think. 33 spm isn't that high a rate at all. In a 1K trial OTW, I think I can rate 36-38 spm. ranger not high at all. Apart from the fact that WRC rowers like Mahe Drysdale rate 35 for their races....

Re: Ranger's training thread
Mike VB-- Given that you pull 8 SPI OTW, if you can rate 30 spm at the Head of the Charles, you'll win. So. Can you? 8 SPI @ 30 spm is 1:54 pace. ranger you're doing that for a couple of strokes though, you're going to have to do that for 5k. if you did that for a 2k that'd put you in contention at...

Re: Ranger's training thread
The other day, Mike VB reported some OTW rowing that he called "speed work," but oddly, in this "speed work," he only rated 30 spm. For most people, 30 spm is a middle distance rate. "Speed work" is something closer to 40 spm than 30 spm. At 8 SPI, 30 spm is 1:54. But at 8 SPI, 40 spm is 1:43. rang...

Re: Excercises for lower back/hip flexibility
Well a lot of it is about technique, you need to get your reach from backstops. Hands away, lean with the body, then slide.
I can touch the railgaurd if I want to and I'm only 5 11,
This is a very good video for technique, shows you all you need to know

Re: Compression
I suggest you first try to work out to get a feeling of compression at large knee angles. In my opinion compression has to do with a dynamic movement of the muscles and not with a static position of the limbs. I am sure that a small knee angle might make you feel like working hard (because it is he...

Re: Ranger's training thread
I wonder whether I can do 38 spm OTW for the 135 strokes that it takes to do a 1K. I'll have to give it a go. I think I can do it OTErg. What is the best that a 60-year-old has ever done for 1K OTW? OTW, Mike VB has done 1:50 for 1K, but that was at 58 years old, and even so, I sure that that is a ...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Today, I was doing some 2:01 @ 23 spm in my Fluid. Wow. Even at 15 seconds over erg times, about the best anyone can do, that's the equivalent of 1:46 @ 23 spm OTErg, a neat little 12.6 SPI. ranger You can't compare OTW to erg, way too many variables on the water to make it accurate. How long did y...

the internet isn't the place to ask for technique advice, we haven't seen you row so we can't give you proper advice.
Ask your coach for help.

Re: Queston on PM3 built-in workouts...
Thanks I'll try this when I get home. I agree with the calorie count which is why I am glad you can "recalcuate" it from this website with your actual weight, etc. I ASSUME this is accurate? It'd still be an estimate, as every person has their own metabolism. But I'm guessing it'd be more accurate ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I tried out the 500m today for the first time, and landed a 1:27.1. The problem though is that 1:27 also seems to be my LP. This gives me mixed feelings, I'm happy about being able to hold my LP through all of the 500, but at the same time I feel restricted by it. I'm guessing I need to hit the wei...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Today, I tried this with the second part of the drive, the push with the hams and gluts off the heels. ranger Just WTF does "gluts" have to do with anything? Besides not being a real word the closest one can get to "gluts" is glut |glət| noun an excessively abundant supply of something Which in you...

Re: Stroke Rates
It's all about effective use of your energy, if your not strong enough you won't be able to hold I high rate without rushing your slide and you'll end up going slower than if you had a controlled slide. when you start pushing past rate 30 in a scull for any serious amount of distance you need to hav...

Re: 60's Lwt WR
Is anyone over here going to attempt to break it? It stands at 6.42.5 done by Brian Bailey. I am now training with PaulS with the sole aim to break the WR at Boston next year. I had taken 3 years out to ride my bike, now I'm back, been back 5 weeks now. Best of luck, but I would guess that it won't...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Had a 2k seat race for a place in a novice quad. My previous 2k time was 7:18.4. This time I managed to do a 7:08.6!
I still missed out on a seat by 3.2 seconds but I'm really happy with how it went.
