Re: training frequency

It depends on the intensity of the weights as well and what your doing in those weight sessions. IMO a moderate-high intensity row 6days a week plus 2 weights sessions is too much, if you want to see progress anyway. Of course i'm not a professional this is just my opinion from personal experience. ...

Re: Crossfit Workout: deadlifts followed by C2 intervals

I always do my interval sessions after Deadlift, I may suffer slightly on the pace I can hold for the intervals, but it allows me to have a rest day that would otherwise be taken up by intervals - which would be detrimental to DL gains.

Re: Lifting or erging?

From personal experience, SL 5x5 is a good accompaniment to rowing. Just make sure you do your intense sessions on the same days you lift weights, and save the off days for easier, recovery rows etc, otherwise the muscles will never repair and no progress will be made. Personally I believe to get be...

Re: Looking to pull the trigger, some questions...

I think weight work and getting fit are contradictory: if you do some serious weights, you'll need 2-3 days recovery so won't be able to work enough to get fit. On the other hand if the weights are light, might as well get on the erg which lets you pull as you like. I disagree strongly. I am a comp...

Re: Sprint recovery time

I think the 3:30 rest for the 500s is to provide plenty of rest so that each 500m can be done at maximum. Obviously this is going to be faster than your 2k pace (maybe 3sec) and it may feel like an unnecessary rest (i found the same and give 2') but if you give your all on each rep, you'll need it. ...

Re: Training volume, Steady State, and Weight Loss

I read an interesting article the other day, the general consensus now is not 'calorie counting' rather eating more naturally. I recommend using calories as a general guide, but not strictly limiting yourself. Just make sure your dies consists of natural foods: carbs mainly based on fruits/ vegetabl...

Re: Stroke Rate/Damper Rating

I don't know if this will help but, I set my drag factor to around 110-115 for lower rated pieces (20-25) as this tends to put more emphasis on the legs at the catch.
for quicker intervals (such as 8x500m, 5x1500m etc.) which rate higher (28-32) I set the drag to lwt (as i'm ~68kg) so around 125-130.

Re: Training volume, Steady State, and Weight Loss

Ok, in my experience it is not possible to significantly improve fitness whilst trying to lose weight - they are two goals aiming at opposite ends. To lose weight you must 'under' eat (a calorific debt) - To get fitter, no matter how be it weight training or cardiovascular, your body needs to grow, ...

Re: A Project Management Approach to Lightweight Rowing

When I looked through it, I had a mixed reaction - I agree with hitting the weights before erging, this is how I do it and I couldn't imagine going as hard on either weights or the rower doing it the other way round. However I found it had too long rest periods for me, especially between the erg ses...

Re: The Obsession...

Thank you so much for posting this! Now i feel normal  , fitness is definitely addicting! When i'm on the Erg I may hate it, but once the sessions over i'm incredibly disappointed (that its over) and have to force myself not to go again, especially when you see improvement :)

Re: About Drag Factor...

I'm also just a dry ERGer, hoping to enter into some indoor competitions if I can get my 2k quick enough, but I do agree I think DF is more something to consider if your are an OTW rower... @ Bill, yeah i think height does allow a quicker SPM, but its harder to get as much power in your stroke due t...

About Drag Factor...

Hi, I'm relatively new to rowing (having only started in Jan) and am by far no expert. Looking through the forums (Training and FAQ) there seems to be a lot of confusion concerning Drag Factor. In an attempt to answer most queries about DF, here goes.. As I see it, the lower the DF the less air allo...

Question concerning Drag Factor..

Hi, I've been training on the erg since about Christmas 2010. When I looked at the training plans to get an idea of what/ how I should be training (such as 'the Pete plan' and 'the Wolverine plan') it recommended having the drag factor in the range 110 - 120, especially for the longer pieces (such a...
