Hi Mike - the 8/12 workout does not translate to the erg even at very low settings but I'm not sure why! The 'spinning' set up on a stationary bike yields good results. Where I work out the bike is a very good model that beeps at me when I should start pedalling harder and also tells you to easy off...

hi snail space - you have achieved awesome results which goes to show what can be achieved by listening to your body. HR monitors also give me some important biofeedback and I try to keep my HR in the high 40's to low 50's - gradually the 500m split times I can comfortably endure for 3-5 x 20 minute...

Hi John & Steelhead, my weight continues to fall using the 8/12 routine - now down to 23 kg's over my previous optimum of 71kg - and I hate to admit it that's a total drop of 11kg's since starting to exercise after reovering from long term (4 years mostly immobile) serious injury picked up in one of...

Hi baguaman - the 90 min routines can be a bit daunting and are not the only way to lose weight - on the other hand your technique and aerobic conditioning will obviously benefit. I would direct you to the weight loss forum where there is a lively debate about the 12/8 second exercise bike regimen. ...

Hi John Rupp - the 12 second/ 8 second routine is an exercise regime that has the secondary effect of developing tendon strength etc. in much the same way as gardening, walking etc. It would be interesting to hear from you when you have done a couple of 20 minute bike sessions - and/or when you have...

Hi John Rupp - gardening does 'burn' body fat admirably as does housework and the odd amorous tumble with a significant other - if the advice offered by most exercise and weight control institutions is to be believed. Have you considered that these anecdotal but none the less empirical observations ...

Hi baguaman - just to let you know that tons of very successful (including olympian) crews & scullers train at very low rates (spm) for a good part of the annual training cycle. With the aim of giving themselves the widest aerobic base they will row at low pressure at rates of 16-18 spm in the boat ...
