Re: Half Marathon
At 53 you should be considering a stress test!!! I have had , over the last 13 or so years , some episodes of lone atrial fibrilation so I am somewhat nervous to take myself to the max , like in a stress test would..............just in case . I used to be very fit in my 30's to early 40's , and hav...

Re: Half Marathon
I don't get why so many people are obsessed with heart rate. A 1:29 HM or almost any time for a distance much over 1K tells you a hell of a lot more the your max heart rate. As I said in response to another reply . I wanted to use one of the training plans that I see around and they all semm to wan...

Re: Half Marathon
So I just finished my second HM this year and I wonder if someone with expirience and knowledge on this forum can extrapolate from my numbers what my max heart rate might be . I have not , and am not likely to ever do a stress test or step test to find out . S/M avg 24 Avg watts 169 My time was - 1...

Re: Camelback Hydration
have read about hydrating via a camelbak style bladder . So can someone give me a testimonial about their personal expierience using one . I read statements saying that they would suspend one above them to access the mouth piece , but I want to wear one . I don't want to stop to pick up a water bot...

Re: Camelback Hydration
Bryan, As you noted, some people use Camelbaks in different ways. I often use one when a erg for extended times (> 1 h), and prefer to wear it. I have never had any problems wearing while erging, and find it much easier to get a drink that way. If I was aiming for some record, then maybe I would do...

So I'm planning on my first marathon and I have read lots of different post on what to do and what not to do . I've gone through C2s planning a marathon advice and looked around at other sources and have read about hydrating via a camelbak style bladder . So can someone give me a testimonial about t...

Re: Trochanteric Bursitis
I am an infrequent poster [mainly because I spend most of my free time cross-training]. The other day, after a very intense 40 min of interval work on my bicycle, I developed [hours later] what my net research suggests is Trochanteric Bursitis. I have been training since my early 20's and have done...
A-Fib
Just curious . Is there anyone on this forum who has some form of A-Fib expierience . I had an episode a few days ago after doing a lot of outside labour in the heat and then I did a hard 10k row and afterward ,while having dinner , I went into a 3 hour A-Fib episode . I have had Lone A-Fib several ...

Re: Half Marathon
If your doing regular longer training rows like 60 minutes, the HM really doesn't feel that much longer. If on the other hand 30 minutes feels like a long row to you your going to have problems in just taking the "Seat time" with your butt, let alone the other problems you nomally endure. I have be...

Re: Half Marathon
So I was able to do the half marathon . Not really fast , but I did it :D 1:35:42.2 . The last 400 m I wanted to stop ; my butt and hamstrings were giving it to me . I didn't get my HR up above 120 so cardio was not a problem , just sitting for sooooo long . How ever do you people do a full marathon ?

Re: Half Marathon
Hi Bryan, The general advice is that if you double the distance, your splits will go up by about 5 seconds. This seems to hold pretty well for me. I guess some lightweights see a smaller number, like 3 seconds. It's hard to interpret much from your heart rate unless you know how it compares to your...

Half Marathon
I'm looking for advice on doing a half marathon for the Summer Solstice Challange . I am currently able to row 10,000m in just over 42' ( including a 5' warm up ) using a effort rate of 900+ calories an hour for the better part of the body of the row and averaging 25 spm. and my average HR is 120 ac...
