Greetings, It has been a couple weeks since last rowing due to business and family. I didn't envision how difficult it would be to keep up my schedule with the newborn, but nonetheless...no excuses. 5794 meters in 30 minutes. I'm just trying to get back into it, so kept it pretty low rate (18-20 spm...

Yesterday, I spent 10 minutes on erg and rowed 2029 meters. I then did other exercise (jump rope, calisthenics, basketball) for about an hour. Today, I plan a longer piece on the erg which I will report later. This last week has been rough with a surprise visit from relatives midweek and a lot of wo...

Back in the saddle.

After a week of vacation and lackluster exercise, I've begun my serious training in earnest. I kicked off this competition with a 5k test this morning (5:30 AM!) to get a baseline. I did a 10 minute warm-up (1884 m) and 5 minute cool-down (792 m) Time: 21:53.6 This is a PB, and I'm pleased I did oka...

This is very general, so consider this with what your goals are. 1. I think 30-32 spm might be fast for general training. I think it doesn't give you enough time on the recovery. I think many people go 30+ spm in racing or sprint training situations. How long are you holding this for? If you are doi...

This may sound strange, but I start out with in-through nose, out-through mouth (out on drive, in on recovery), but as I get more tired, I sort of breath through both mouth and nose at same time, and out through mouth. My wife, who's a long distance runner, showed me how she does it, and it helps me...

New 5k PR.

Hey friends,

Today, I broke 22 minutes in the 5k for the first time.

Old PB: 22:35
New PB: 21:58.7

It feels good to know the training is helping!

I guess I use the following rates for the following reasons: 2K and short intervals - 28-32 spm - I think it's important to keep the flywheel going and as much pressure as possible. 5K and more intense aeroebic - 24-26 - This is a higher rate I can hold for 15-25 minutes. Longer pieces - 20-24 spm -...

Hey there, I copied this over from another post of mine on another thread: 1. After finish of stroke, lead with your arms out first, then... 2. Pivot forward at the hips as your arms "draw" you forward... 3. As your body reaches vertical, bend your knees and your arms and body will draw you forward ...

Hey there, I think you should definitely go for it. I am training for it, and I pretty much know I won't be winning any medals, but it is a goal to train for and a motivational tool. For example, I initially set my goal for 8 min. 2k (not great, but my previous best at the time was 8:37). In two mon...

Re: Good to Hear

Were your recent changes revolutionary or evolutionary? If I'm interpreting the question correctly, I would say revolutionary! I started serious training on the erg, setting a goal of racing in Boston at the WIRC next year. I put together a training schedule, starting reading a book on mental train...

As for nuts. If your eating them because of protein, I'm not saying at all to stop eating them because they are good for you, but they contain incomplete proteins (meaning they do not have all the essential animo acids) which however can become complete proteins when combined with other foods. I ea...

Hey, Maybe set a goal to train for...maybe an upcoming race a few months away or set up a challenge with another rower for a specific time. For example, currently, a buddy and I have a little challenge that will finish on July 7th. We're trying to see who has the best 5k time by that time. It has be...
