I’m looking for a sub7 2K this coming season, don’t know how realistic that is as I haven’t rowed a 2k piece for years now. All my work lately has been long steady distances a 500 km row in June followed by 1million Metres jan-march.
Going for full marathon next month, then seriously going for the 2k

Re: Distance training to Speed Training
Interesting. Your current workouts are Long Slow Distance aka "LSD" workouts. These are great workouts for basic fitness and they will make you faster. Additionally, this is the base workout for elite rower. Since you set a goal of 10^6 m between Jan 1 and Mar 31, keep on it. But let me make a few ...

Re: Distance training to Speed Training
Felt a lot different to my normal row, normal row is, sit down and tug way till distance complete, no major fatigue just boredom and sore arse. This was a lot harder by comparison, had to concentrate to keep rate that slow, kept creeping up to 21-22 spm. Not going to lose focus on my goal, will bash...

Re: Distance training to Speed Training
Thanks for all the advice people. (Jamesg, I will re read yours a few times before i get my head around that, but I'm impressed,i think) :P So today I done 12Km at 2.09.4 @ 19 SPM which (using my new found knowledge) equates to 8.5. This is a little more respectable I think for a heavyweight (105kg) ...

Re: Distance training to Speed Training
So are you saying my stroke will be weak currently, and I need to produce more Power to achieve a faster 2 K time?
How should I go about this? would a Higher drag factor help at all? what sort of power should I look at producing?

Distance training to Speed Training
This year i set myself a goal of rowing 1 Million Metres between 1st Jan and 31st March. Things are well on track, I'm currently 520,000m in. Once this is complete, I intend to try and up my speed training in order to get a good 2K time (sub 7 hopefully) How should I go about changing my training to...

Re: Million Metre March
Good luck with the marathon, I am thinking of factoring one in along the way.
I too wear cycling shorts and have purchased one of them foam pads. No major problems at all so far, but saying that I’m only 200km in 1/5 of the way.
Good luck with the marathon mate, I will keep an eye out for ya.

Re: Million Metre March
As for why, it gives me a target to aim for and some focus. As for why so on and off, my initial row 418km was as a fundraiser for TEAM RUBICON a disaster response charity, in which I raised £1250. Since completing that row I have been deployed to Uganda and the Caribbean with Team Rubicon so been o...

Re: Million Metre March
Thanks for the reply’s giy’s
So good shorts a rest day and just keep plugging away.
I’m looking at sessions of 5k 4K 3k 2k1k 500 with rests of about 3 mins between.
And a 24hr clock session from 1800 down which is about 17k alternate these and I shouldn’t fall too far behind.

Million Metre March
I’m planning on rowing a million meters between jan 1st and 31st March .
Anyone out there with any advise on how to tackle this?
I’ve not rowed since June 17 when I completed 418km in just over 3 weeks.

Re: Atlantic Row
Thanks for the reply.
Yes the principle in rowing is the same, the seat moves on a rail whilst feet are held static so legs do play a big part, however, due to the ocean waves ect, a lot of power comes from the upper body.
The boat will be a four man boat with 2 persons rowing whilst two rest.
