Re: discouraged
Thanks for your replies, everyone. It turns out I had pneumonia and haven't been able to row for a month. I was sick before that as well so maybe my strength was down. Soon I'll start to row again and I hope to get back to having some energy. Maybe I'll get some power in my stroke again. I miss it. ...

Re: discouraged
Thanks, folks, for the input. I have a heart rate monitor that I enjoy using and it seems I was doing a lot better weeks ago. Now I can barely get into the aerobic range when before I could maintain a higher rate. I wonder sometimes if it's lack of protein. I live in a cabin on a remote island and c...

I am not getting any better at this. I've been rowing on and off for 2 years. Two months ago I committed to rowing 60 minutes each day. I have lost 12 pounds, 8 to go, and then I'll keep rowing for fitness and the antidepressant effect. Problem is, I see people just starting out on the forums with w...

Re: polar watch fat burn/fitness
Thanks for your input, PaulH. In fitness mode you still burn fat calories then, just a little less? I guess your also burning calories from that day that haven't turned to fat yet. I row for an hour a day in two sets of 30 minutes. So I guess I'll keep at a comfortably hard pace that I can keep up a...

polar watch fat burn/fitness
I have a polar watch and chest strap. It tells me I am in the fitness mode when I'm going fairly slowly and not feeling like I'm even getting a moderate workout. When I get to a reasonable speed but can still carry on a conversation it tells me I'm in fitness mode. To stay in fat burn mode I'd have ...

Re: upper back pain
An update for those with a similar problem in the future: I've been doing the rubber band exercises and pushups to balance the pulling muscles with pushing and the problem is under control. No more discomfort.

upper back pain
I used to row a piston rower which seems to have worked different muscles. Now with the C2 I have a lot of pain between the shoulder blades. It seems to be the deeper muscles, I think their called rhomboids? Now if I plug something into a wall outlet the pushing motion hurts. I used to row 40 minute...

Re: The Rowing Zone Team Room
January 25 - 2 km January 27 - 2 km Just going slowly for a while until my shoulder is up for longer rows. I have so much wood chopping to do and hauling things around and farm chores so it doesn't get completely better. I've taken up jumping rope, as well, so I mix it up. Maybe I'll do circuit trai...

Just taking it slowly to keep from aggravating a recent shoulder problem. Probably won't make my goal at this rate but better safe than sorry.

Re: The Rowing Zone Team Room
Okay, I think I'm here. I've changed my name from Slugslime (a hurried choice when I signed up at CC. I happened to have some on my shoe and so... Also my initials, SS, made me sound like a nazi.) So now I am a dignified Prunella. I'm excellent when mixed with Nutella on toast. Prunella sounds upper...
