Re: Short Interval Workouts
Old thread, I know. The 500m is my best distance, usually top 5-10 in the world in my age group. I'm faster at that distance than a lot of rowers who put in way more training meters and destroy me at the longer distances. IMHO intervals are great for the 500m and the LP but intervals will only get y...

Re: DPS decrease with higher rating?
To me, as a lightweight, it is simple. The heavyweights row faster than the lightweights. Even the middling heavyweights row faster than the best lightweights; it's not really close. Their extra mass doesn't make their technique any better or their fitness any better. They really don't row at a high...

Re: Lifting vs. Lots of Rowing for 500 times
The key to the olympic lifts and also, I believe, to rowing, is the vicious extension of the hip. Rowing doesn't extend the hip nearly as far as the O-lifts. Also, the power at the catch of the rowing stroke is more critical than the power at the start of the O-lifts. And Lincoln, if I'm not mistak...

Re: Lifting vs. Lots of Rowing for 500 times
Any thoughts on gym exercises to improve velocity and/or power? Well yeah, the Olympic lifts. Cleans in particular but snatches too. Squats & deadlifts will help with cleans & snatches and rowing, but keep in mind they are more strength exercises than power exercises. For pulling power I like kippi...

Re: Lifting vs. Lots of Rowing for 500 times
I've been competing in Olympic Weightlifting for 10 years now. I also consistently rank in the top 5 for my age/division in the 500m row. It's not a coincidence. In the 5 years I've owned my C2 I've probably only rowed about a million meters total. There's a big difference in power output between po...
