Re: 100m open world record set by 57 year old Leo Young
To be clear, I won’t be submitting this as a record, as despite the unusual circumstances leading up to the effort, that did definitely facilitate an extraordinary performance at some level, nevertheless the watts achieved at such a low rating defy credibility and I have strongly suspect a calculati...

Re: Training for WIRC (Virginia) and/or Crash-Bs (Boston)
Cheers Leo, thanks for the vote of confidence. The problem is the steroid-induced diabetes. I don't travel at all well these days, and even a small disruption in my eating/ sleeping/ activity schedule can have very large consequences in terms of my ability to function at what I'd like to think are ...

Re: Low carb guy wins Tour de France?
Cycling training nutrition tips from Chris Froome below, written in April this year. Whilst he does cycle low carb training rides within his regime, in order to improve fat metabolism, he still certainly still makes sure he always gets plenty of carbs following hard training sessions and leading int...

176lb KB swing x 20 reps Shawn, I've never seen KB's bigger than 64kg (141lb) and I know how hard they are to swing to face level without catapulting myself forward, so I can't even begin to imagine how you successfully swing 80kg (176lb) KB's. I'm assuming that you would only be able to swing them...

Re: New American 500m record and questioning dogma
Nice effort Shawn, at a low rating. I'll be keen to see what you can do once you progress up to rating 40+. You've certainly demonstrated a very easy, effective and relatively painless training progression method for doing a respectable 500m time. Interestingly, I had coincidentally been toying with...

I just got confirmation from him that he's 41 years old, 1.87m tall and only 97kg. Amazing power for his size.hjs wrote:New 100m record. 12.9.... 1.04.9Av
Havard Landsem. Norwegian, only 98kg and not overly tall. 1.88 I believe?

How did you calculate a weight adjusted time of 5:49. from 6:17.5?Fsears1 wrote:Thank you for the feedback everyone.
Last week I pulled my final 2k of the season and finished with a time of 6:17.5, bringing down my weight adjusted time to about 5:49.

Re: Max Heart Rate diminishing with training?
Alex, Max HR is inversely proportional to the size of your heart, i.e. the larger your heart, the lower your max HR. So often, as you do more endurance training, not only will your HR be lower at any given workload, but your max HR may well decrease as well, due to an increase in stroke volume. Howe...

Re: National Records
I have the same quest WRT Australian Records. There is a list for 2000m, but not for 30mins or other categories. Using the world ranking page, you need to check every year, and it's not possible to know whether a listed time in a particular is a national record or not. Any clues appreciated. Austra...

Re: Heart Rate + Perceived Effort + Dr. Maffetone
Leo Young makes a good point about retesting: .. but who wants to spend-spend-spend? It's been four years since I had my last one. I think I'll go back in the lab and see how the new one compares with the old... I'm going to wait 'til I'm out of my pre-season to get tested... as I think that having...

Re: Heart Rate + Perceived Effort + Dr. Maffetone
These two levels form the upper and lower boundaries of where the majority of your aerobic training should occur, with the lower 'aerobic threshold' level described, or even just below this level, being the intensity at which most training occurs. Could you please clarify this sentence a little bit...

Re: Heart Rate + Perceived Effort + Dr. Maffetone
I'd strongly suggest that using Dr Maffetone's formula, or for that matter, any other formula that uses age as a variable. Individual max heart can vary by as much as 45 beats or more, above and below age predicted max HR; that's a variance range of more than 90 beats. Add to that the fact that at ...
